Your help needed: Succubus Profile Page
Time for pet #3!
To see what kind of information I am looking for, please have a look at: The Warlocks Den - Profile Page: Imp or The Warlocks Den - Profile Page: Voidwalker Succubus Info I'm looking for a general 'about the Succubus' section. Who is the Succubus? Where does he come from? What is his general role? Tips & Tricks: I'm wanting to list any neat little tricks you can do with the Succubus... are there any? The Instance Succubus: Information about the Succubus's role in instances. The PvP Succubus: Informationa bout the Succubus's role in PvP. Both Battlegrounds and Arenas Talents that will affect / improve the Succubus: A list of all the talents that affect/improve the Succubus Anything else that you think should be included, please let me know. The idea behind the profile pages is to help Warlocks learn more about their pets, and to learn how best to use their pets. Sorry, minions. So for example, I'm not after "Don't use the Succubus in PvP, she sucks". I'm after why you wouldn't use it in PvP, what are the disadvantages etc. Could there be any situations it might come in handy. I want it so that someone who is looking for the information, can walk away going "oooh, I get it now, I understand why ... " ![]() |

Re: Your help needed: Succubus Profile Page
A bit off the subject of wow but of course the lore of where they got succubus's from will still be similar. even if you weren't planning on this info i think its interesting =)
In Western medieval legend, a succubus is a demon, who takes the form of a beautiful woman to seduce men, especially monks, in dreams to have sexual intercourse (might explain the whip) . They draw energy from the men to sustain themselves, often until the point of exhaustion or death of the victim. The appearance of succubi varies, but in general they are depicted as alluring women with great beauty, often with demonic batlike wings, and large breasts; they also have other demonic features, such as horns and cloven feet (look familiar? description almost exactly identical to a WoW succubus) Occasionally they appear as an attractive woman in dreams that the victim cannot seem to get off his mind. They lure males and in some cases, the male has seemed to fall "in love" with her (The move seduce and soothing kiss derive from this) the male version is called a incubus. thats all ![]() |

Re: Your help needed: Succubus Profile Page
Crowd control with succy
focustarget-macro and dottimer or any other debuff timer takes away annoying micro-management from cc-seduction. in PvE i cast CoEx and searing pain on seduction target before seducing, so that if i'm not on top of things when seduction breaks our healer or my lovely succubus won't get hit and she's free to reseduce. In PvP even when she's so frail, that one seduction can give me time to get fear or any other spell with casting time off, and often tips the scale to my favor. PS. Does Demonic sacrifice and CoS stack? ![]() |

Re: Your help needed: Succubus Profile Page
The Succubus is probably the most loved demon by everyone and the most well known by those outside the warlock community. The sight of our winged, half naked, cloven-hooved demon spanking herself has become synonomous with the warlock class (and perverted little boys everywhere), although she eventually is replaced by other prefered demons depending on the specs. Unlike the the VW, who's purpose is to hold aggro (or at least try to), the succubus is a dps pet. Where as the imp uses fireballs to deal damage until OOM, the succubus does a mix of physical and magical damage with melee attacks. Her auto attacks count as physical damage (hence are good against the mana worms in Kara). She also has the Lash of Pain ability wich is an "extra" attack that causes shadow damage. Yes this is boosted by CoS and is useless against mobs that are immune to magical damage (such as the mana worms in Kara). Unlike the VW she is extremely fragile. Although not quite so much as the imp but very near. Any elite will kill her in seconds so using her to tank one is out of the question, but her dps output makes her ideal for non elite trash.
Solo grinding with the succubus is very viable, and if learned right, can be much preferable to the voidwalker as mobs will die much faster. However, the succubus has a much stiffer learning curve than the VW does and grinding more than one mob at a time is out of the question. Where as the VW is the "lazy man's" soloing pet, the need to restrain dps for him to hold aggro greatly prolongs the fight. This is not the case with the succubus as you WANT to pull aggro from her early as she can not maintain a beating for long in later levels. Typically soloing with the succubus goes somthing as follows. You send in the succubus to aggro the mob, or wand the mob to pull it then send in the succubus to intercept the mob enrout. While the succubus has the mobs attention, you stack you dots onto the mob. What you do after depends largely on what spec you are. Typically you can cast a shadow bolt to then pull the mob off the succubus or just begin wanding the mob. Her soothing kiss talent comes into play here handily. An affliction lock will more likely life tap to full mana then begin draining. This is repeated till the mob is dead. After the fight health funnel your succubus back to full health. You can work in a drain life in the next fight to get back your health. This was my prefered method of grinding pre Dark Pact for affliction and is still very viable post dark pact, just not with more than one mob. She may also be the prefered pet of choice for the demo warlock till the fel guard is obtained, and is in fact better as the demo tree has talents that improves her still. Destruction has also had great success with her in times past, most notably in a suduce/nuke type fashion. Immolate is applied to the mob/player which you then proceed to nuke down. When the hostile comes in close, immo is then burned from the target with conflag and the succubus' seduce is used to immobilize the target allowing for the warlock to regain range, after wich the process is repeated. Instances, however, are where the succubus shines the most. She provides one of our 3 types of CC's in the form of seduce, which of the 3 is the most favored by groups. (Banish is situational and NO ONE likes seeing mobs running in fear). This here is where your succubus will earn her frequent flyer miles, even when the warlock might prefer to use another pet, such as the imp or fel guard. The succubus' seduce works only against humanoids, and is very short, forcing the warlock to constantly change target while dpsing, and generates threat from the mob, which will promptly one shot the succubus after the first seduce if the tank didn't take a swipe or 2 at it to generate some threat. Good groups know and understand her limits and other CCs such as the mage's sheep or the hunter's trap is prefered over the succubus. However, when push comes to shove and the need for CC is waranted, the group expects the warlock to break out the little sadist without a fuss. In fact, good management of the succubus' seduce is a sure sign of a good warlock. If done well, can earn you spots in further runs. The only other major use of the succubus is for the 0/21/40 raid spec in end game for the demonic sacrifice ability. Although long passed her glory days, and not directly used herself, the 15% extra shadow damage she confers upon sacrifice in conjunction with other talents in the destro tree make shadow nuking the highest dpsing spec in end game raiding. Of the 4 main pets for the class, the succubus my favorite pet of all of them. None of them realy say warlock like the succubus, and only the fel guard is equal in both notoriety and utility. The succubus is also realy the first pet that you will get that has any staying power in the higher levels. The imp only has value for affliction and the VW is laughable. As stated before, though most often traded in for the imp with affliction and the uber fel guard in demo, grinding with the succubus is still quite viable at any stage in the game after she is obtained. *** Information added 13 Minutes and 23 Seconds later... *** Yes.
