Right click on the pets health bar and click dismiss, if you are using the standard wow ui then his bar is right under yours and just right click on it.

You can right click on any of your demons portrait in the top left under your own, and select dismiss

For future reference, when you get demons that require soul shards, you can also out distance them. Setting any demon to stay, and walking far enough away will unsummon them, and return your shard if you used one to summon it (ie, anything above the imp) Just thought I'd let you know that, to keep an extra shard ;)

This is also handy when you've enslaved a demon for CC purposes and want to get rid of it on schedule. Just right click on the demon's healthbar so you can warn your team-mates that it's time to burn it down.

Does this still work? I thought I remembered a blue post or patch note saying that they fixed it so that they wouldn't give you the shard back.

Still works as of a few days ago. Silly that you can only mem a demon ability when you have that demon out, so I'd put them on hold and run away to save shards...

Re: how do i "unsummon" my imp?

You also dismiss you current demon by summoning another type (but in that case you are not getting your shard back).

And another thing that happened to me just yesterday - if you wish to get your shard back, put your demon on Stay and run, beware not to be attacked on the way if he's on Defensive or he'll come to help you !
