Not using voidwalker?

So, I was reading the thread about the nerf to our VW trinket and a passing comment got me to thinking.

Someone talked about how no one uses their voidwalker at 70 and I was wondering...if you're not demo specced, which pet do people use?

I don't have the option to raid so perhaps that's where I am missing it but, I still use the VW quite often. Dailies? VW. Grinding? VW. Farming? VW. PVP? FH or succy. Instance? something for CC or imp for mana.

Am I that different? What do people use when grinding/farming for something or doing their dailies?

I use the imp when I'm dark pact affliction speced at all time except PvP, then its my fel pup. If I'm destro, I tend to sac the succy. Sometimes I'll sac the pup for mana when the fight is long and isn't a dps race.

this is like mocking your enemy and then reducing thier chance to hit by 10% talk about humiliation. your enemy is gunna be made a fool by this guy.

pop your vw into an angry mob and you come out on top. then if that aint enough to get you through a confrontation,
sacrifice-kills the voidwalker. giving you a magical shield that absorbs 2.9k damage and causes spells not to be interrupted.

sure a hard crit can easily bust your bubble. im not trying to bust yours.

Hmmm, I use my VW almost exclusively at 70. The only exceptions are PVP (fel pup) and instance runs where I'll break out the imp for mana battery and blood pact.

Doing dailies on QD is super simple with my "nether" meat shield. I have some kara epics, but not by any stretch is my gear great and my VW has decent stats. I can chain kill most mobs on QD without healing him. In addition I can usually take 2 or 3 mobs at one time without difficulty. I could never pull that off with any of the other pets. He does a reasonably okay job of "tanking". With that said, if you dont like getting hit stay at max range and you'll be fine in most cases.

As destro, the VW is useless to me as is. After one incinerate, I've already pulled agro. Gives me a few seconds, but really, I'd rather have the imps stam buff.

I'm glad that you posted this because I just recently hit 70 and have been wondering the same thing, as I have also seen negative comments about using him at 70.

Even though I have Dark Pact, I still use the Voidwalker in most situations, save for instances (Imp) and PvP (Felhunter).

While I can definitely say that he's not what he used to be in earlier levels he still seems to me to be the only viable choice of pet for cases other than those mentioned above for someone who doesn't have access to a Felguard.

Maybe I am wrong, or maybe it depends on an individual's spec/preference/play style.

Note: This completely disregards raiding as I have no experience in that area yet.

Prior to being attached to my Felguard at the hip, I still never used the Voidwalker. Succubus or Imp were my two pets of choice.

Ill say it again: there isn't a right and a wrong way to play the warlock. There is the most effective one and the one people like to play. If those 2 coincide... good. If they don't coincide, as long as your having fun... is just as good.

Said that, ill just say what "most" warlocks do, once they get to 70.
- If you have enough shadow damage to do it (since it depends on having a nice amount of shadow/spell damage), go affliction, with Dark Pact to drain your imps mana, drain tank when needed or multi mob pull. With all the healing done with Siphon life, you wont get hurt much. Finish fights with full hp/mp. Usually 41/0/20.

- IF you don't have enough shadow damage to be affliction, go demonology. But get the Felguard. Is an improved version of the VW. It doesn't have as much armor but holds agro a lot better and kills faster with aoe damage. Usually 7/43/11 or something around that.

- If you have enough Spell hit/crit from gear and enough shadow damage, go dest. Rarely this will happen right after getting to 70. Anyway a dest lock doesn't use a pet. The bonus from sac the summons is so high, that isn't really worth it. Usually 0/21/40

- The imp gives the stamina buff and good mana regen for dark pact. The succubus gives average damage and seduce is your most reliable crowd control in instances. The felguard is the ultimate summon, with highest damage and threat generation. The felhunter is the pvp summon, with his increased stealth detection and spell lock (the specs for pvp are all around the place but close, if not all, use the felhunter). The voidwalker really doesn't bring anything useful (the bubble is ok but it wont last long with the damage done in the outlands).

i stopped playing the VW at about 40-ish, went Imp with my new shiny shadow-weave set. the Felpup is still a good pet if the majority of mobs are mana casters, made much use of him in zangarmarsh (all those snakes).
last week i was invited into a 2-man pug to fight some elite quest guy by a shaman insisting i take the VW to tank. the shammy healed the VW who somehow managed to hold aggro, easy kill. i was quite supprised this worked as i'd lost faith in him years ago, just goes to show they all have their uses.

I still use it at 70, it's only pet i have out when i'm alone. As UA Affliction with 931 spellpower with fel armor, and bugger still holds the aggro if don't open with shadowbolt. No repair bills and heavy control on mobs.

Tap few targets with void, use torment, dot main target up and every other with CoE and siphon, then it's SoC-time, SoC main target last.
I find that with torment i can CoE and siphon life and those not getting hit will still stay on void so i lifetap my heart out. Even when SoC will get heavy hate on my way, VW-buble, and dots for everyone. SoC's usually kill everything under 8k hp by now so it's loot time or kite and dot those still standing.
Lag sometimes prevents this and it's little less control than i like, so i do it only when i farm something specific, and even then only with melee mobs. If there's caster among them i CoEx and fear it, and kill it last if dots don't kill it.
