Pet on auto-attack?

Since the patch, I have found that even though my pet is on defensive mode, the minute I cast a spell on a target, the pet goes on the attack.

I openned up a ticket to the GM on this, who suggested that I ( of course) remove all add-ons and delete my WTF folder.

Well, with a generic UI... my Felguard still attacks whenever I cast a spell on my target mob.

This is getting a bit frustrating because I use my pets' attack to position the mobs that I attack

I spoke with a Hunter in my guild who mentioned that Hunter pets are doing the same thing. The Hunter mentioned that this was intended in the patch.
The GM that I spoke to said that this action is not intended.

The only way around this is to place the pet in passive mode ( ugh ! )

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yup. Though I generally micro my pets more than the usual person, and have had them all on passive since forever...

Re: Pet on auto-attack?

I think this was intented. I notice this too and all my friends with pets have the same ishue. What it's a pain now, is that when i "roll my mouse wheel up" (thats my /petattack) some times it send the pet to a nerby target instead the one im targeting, and it changes my target aswel.

Is it also possible that it changes its target when we attack someone? Cause I think even though I've sent my pet to seduce one target and then attack a second target it switches its target as my current one.

Re: Pet on auto-attack?

I'm really glad they did this change. Defensive mode is exactly what it SHOULD do now... you have your pet on defensive, when you enter combat (casting a spell), Mr. Felguard does Intercept, and if you're fast enough (and get a crit or two), the mob is dead 0.0000000001 second after intercept fades and the mob suddenly realises what happened.

If you don't want your pet "defending you", set it on Passive and just Shift-T a mob when you want your pet to attack (like it used to be).

Demo tree is all about controlling your pet... L2macro ^.^

Pet Behavior

Here's my dilemma:

I have my pet set on Defensive. I use a spell to pull a mob. As soon as I cast the spell, the pet heads immediately for the mob, regardless of whether the mob has attacked me with a spell or melee.

I have not played Wow in quite some time, but am playing again. Have the pet mechanics changed? As I remember in the past, my pet would not attack in Defensive mode until I was cast upon or smacked by the mob.

Thanks

Re: Pet Behavior

Turn off Phase Shift... he can't attack if he isn't "phased in".
