Got my felhunter last night...

Got my felhunter last night... and I must say, I'm not impressed.

The felhunter only comes "stock" with one ability, and it isn't even auto-cast.

One could argue that the felhunter does more damage than the voidwalker, and can tank better than the succubus - but perhaps I'm a pessimist and view it more as:
The felhunter tanks worse than the tank and does less damage than the succubus... not giving it a clear role.

At level 30, I can not get the felhunter to hold ANY aggro at all... so his tanking ability is a moot point. I would rather have the imp out than the felhunter, to be honest.

I also heard that I shouldn't really pass judgement on the felhunter until level 36, when he gets all of his abilities (like how succ got her mezz at 26).

I was really excited about getting the felhunter, especially since I had never seen one in the game... and I must say I am disappointed.

Is there something I'm missing here? Am I doomed to use a VW or a succ until 60?

Although it's not auto-cast, correct, all other pets pretty much came with only one ability to start with.

Personally I loved my Felhunter when I got him in CB. He kept agro extremely well and was able to tank 3 + mobs with ease. His damage also surpassed the Succubus, albeit not by physical numbers, but at the rate I was taking down mobs with no down time was pretty impressive. Although he may not tank as well as a VW or do damage like a Succubus, he is capable of tanking while doing damage, something neither the other pet is able to do.

I find the felhunter Useful in pvp once you have attained spell lock. And despite posts I have read on the WoW warlock boards, i tested devour magic in duels today and it is eating buffs off of enemies and negative effects off of me.

He is very useful in many situations. And devour magic is one of the best pet abilities I've seen. Never underestimate the power of dispel, especially in pvp.

Bleh, I really enjoyed him when he didn't do that *evil laugh* made it so much easier to tank 10 mobs at once while I stood back and watched.

Isn't it meant to eat buffs of you? I thought it ate things like your Demon Armor, INt buffs etc. Does it only eat negative ones mobs have cast on you?

What the WoW warlock boards were saying is that before, the felhunter could "eat a buff" without there even being a buff present... so basically the felhunter used to be able to heal himself every 8 seconds, regardless of if there was any buff eaten or not.

I also read that just recently they've changed tainted blood so it doesn't hold any aggro anymore... so I'm sure the felhunter that you played with, Akasha, is far different from the retail felhunter as it now stands.

It never held agro, that I noticed in beta either... maybe I just got really lucky and had a mega aggressive Felhunter. I played with a friends one the other day (coz I missed mine so much and no time to play WoW atm) and from what I could tell he acted the same as I remember. I wasn't on for long though, only a couple of hours so mabye I just got lucky.

I'm just wondering since felhunters can't use "devour buff" willy-nilly anymore (a buff is now required for felhunter to heal itself).... the felhunter isn't healing itself, as often, if ever during a battle.

I know healing generates a lot of threat, and perhaps the felhunter not healing itself during battle has really changed the game-dynamic.

That's actually a very good point. I know in CB you would just click on the heal every time it refreshed, and everyone hates a healer  Perhaps, now because it's not healing itself every 8 seconds or what ever the refresh is, the mobs are looking around for who else is giving them grief.

Just got my Felhunter. I was testing him at Ashenvale fighting against those water elementals. He tanked wery well and did not much poorer damage than succubus Only problem is that If I nuke the mob I get the aggro. Devour worked great against Frost nova water elementals used.
He gets tainted blood after 2 lvls so He will be propally nearly as good tank as blueberry while doing some damage.
I also tested Enslave on those 23 demons It lasted every time about 5 mins its Godly!
