Using the VW in groups

My playtime is almost always spent in groups with my guildmates, whether it be in outdoor zones or instanced dungeons. On most of these occasions, there is no warrior or paladin in the group to serve as the primary tank. On the few occasions that I solo, I always use the VW. When I group, I prefer to use the imp or succubus for the change of pace. However, I feel compelled to use the VW in these situations since the group does not have a primary tank class to hold aggro.

What pet do you guys go with when there is no primary tank class in the group? I'm thinking that if your group is fighting regular mobs, it doesn't really matter and you can use whichever one you want. If your group is fighting elite mobs, it may be best to use the VW so it can offtank.

Thanks

Using the VW in groups

I am level 21.9 (one more bar  ) And I use my VW 99% of the time. With 3 talent pts sunk into his prowess at his skills, he is a force to be reckoned with. But simply put the others don't hold a candle. I used my imp all the way up till i got my vw, think i used him once after that (to get soul shards, to get my vw out) then i tried my succubus out after the arduous task of getting her. I tested her out, mediocre at best. For soloing I always use my vw, the succubus does a nice bit of damage, but she has less hp than ME. And I am not here to tank, thats what my pet needs to do. My vw is my tank, i need him to keep the baddies off me, I don't need another dps (unless it's great dps, which the suc isnt) helper because I can dish it out.

In groups I used my succubus once since getting her, and thats when we had 2 warriors and 2 paladins, they actually protested me using my vw because they wanted to tank. So I used my succubus and she helped... some what.

In surmisation: VW is awesome. Unless you have many many tanks in your group, an extra tank is welcomed.

Keep in mind though, i solo more than i group so this is probably a tad skewed. ;)

Hrmm. That's interesting you should say that... I regularly group with a mage and a rogue, occasionally a paladin, maybe a druid or a second rogue. But even when we don't have our tank there, I always use the imp - the VW simply can't hold taunts at higher levels, and everyone starts crying when they lose the 400 hp Blood Pact buff, especially the mage, who has 5k mana but ~900 health (he's one hell of a damage dealer though)

Funny. I swap out my pets when I solo, depending on my mood and what I am hunting. I'm more of a blaster than a DoTter, though, so YMMV.

Imp is fine for fast single kills.

Succubus is also good for fast kills or if I'm fighting humanoids.

If I'm in an area where I can expect more than 1 add, VW.

In a group, VW if we don't have a tank or if I will be using my AoEs.

Haven't tried PvP since I got Seduce, but I would normally hunt with my imp (he was good at finding runners for me). The Stamina boost is nice, also, because I have over 1k hp at level 26 when he is out.

My advice would be to get good with all of them.
