Fel hunter and succy
Hi all, Can someone help me understand why as 53/1/17 I do more dps with the felhunter? After a few tests on the heroic dummy, I did a few to take into account procs from trinkets ect ect, but with the same rotation which I think I have pretty much nailed, I seem to be doing 3-400 more dps with fel hunter, I know I get the fel intell buff with him but from everything I have read the succy is suppose to be the pet of choice with this build. I'm getting 2700 with succy and 3100 with felhunter. ![]() |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
Well, succy is the demon of choice with that build when you have raid buffs that cover the boost that fel intelligence gives you, anyway. Solo, I'm not surprised that your DPS is higher with the puppy out to up your spell damage and crit. Basically, what you need to be looking at is only your pet DPS. The succy's DPS contribution is probably higher than the fel puppy's, but the fel puppy buff's your personal DPS more when you are alone.

Re: Fel hunter and succy
I have been wondering why folks don't use the improved fel puppy with the fel synergy as a mana battery with some DpS. I know alot of folks like the Glyph of Life tap, but doesn't the fel intelligence increase the benefit gained there as well? I am a complete noob and just hit 80 two nights ago for the first time, so I have no real xp to draw on and not enough math to follow EJ posts, it just seems like the puupy is the afflocks best friend! |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
The puppy is the aff-locks best fried if there isn't a priest present to give the better buff equiv equivalent of fel inteligence. Otherwise the succy is best for dps. Improved felhunter gives +53 Int +70 Spirit Arcane Int (mage buff) +60 Int Divine Spirit (priest buff) +80 Spirit Almost forgot to answer the mana battery part.. we don't do that because lifetapping is a dps boost with the glyph and affliction self-heals so that's not a big deal. Think of it this way... dark pact and life tap are both 1gcd so they are the same time casting you get more mana from improved life tap than you do dark pact so you have to do it less often you get 20% of your spirit as spellpower with the life tap glyph so taking these into account Dark pact= no longer need to "hurt one's self" for mana Life tap=need to do less often; gain more spell power=higher dps Last edited by Carnall; June 16, 2009 at 01:32 PM.. |

Do one test, self buffs only, using the felhunter. Now go get Divine Spirit and Arcane Intellect and use the Succubus. Succubus wins. |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
This could be one of your reasons: Shadow Bite-Bite the enemy, causing X Shadow damage plus an additional 5% damage for each of your damage over time effects on the target. Kinda nice if you're Afflic. The spirit and intellect buffs are nice too....I use him all the time in instances...he's my mana battery ^^ |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
So maybe i'm missing something here. I'm just getting back to playing lock again. Haven't touched the lock since The Burning Crusade when sb was the only button that mattered. So why would self buffed versus raid buffed make any difference. You still get the buff in raids it stacks with other effects so what difference does it make. The felpuppy should beat out a succy every time. Am i missing something? |

Ah, yeah - you've been away from the game a bit it sounds like, there's a LOT to catch up on. In this case, the piece that's new for you in this case is that Buffs and debuffs no longer stack. There's "raiding 101 for warlock" threads here that you'll want to read through. Welcome back! |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
Along the same lines, when I hit 80 (this weekend) I'm switching to Destruction and Affliction. With my current destruction build (which I am also going to be respeccing) I use my Imp, with my Demonology/Siph Life build I used my Felguard (leveling build) I gather from the above that the best pet to use with affliction in raid is the succy, and for questing the Felhunter. Correct? What ever is the long ago forgotten void walker used for these days? Last edited by Nerri; July 10, 2009 at 10:50 AM.. |

Re: Fel hunter and succy
I might be incorrect with what I'm about to say here, but I have done rigerous testing and feel comfortable with saying it. If you want to see a generalized locale of where you dps might be in a raid setting. Hit the level 80 dummy self buffed. While your not gaining the "buffs" from the raid, the level 80 mob is almost equal to a fully debuffed 83 mob. While I know some aren't going to agree with that, look at your normal dps, vs your heroic dummy dps not in a raid. Then compare your raid dps vs hitting the 80 mob dummy. I have missed on a heroic dummy, so unless your standing there with heroic presence, and/or misery/boomkin your already at a 3-4pct chance of missing the thing. My advice, take the succy out, and go against the 80 dummy. Then test it out with the fel hunter. See if you can at least get AI and DS b4 you experiment to cover the felhunter buffs. Or just send your pet to attk the dummy by itself and compare the dps from the two. That will eliminate any questions in regards to which does more. (even though its mathematically proven on EJ) But some find it more helpful to see proof behind the #'s. |
