The Suicidal Felhunter
My Felhunter has a problem with suicide.
I've found I get a great utility out of this little guy in instances and such when I'm duoing +. When we get to the boss or regional tough guy, the felhunter charges right in, nerfing the hell out his swinging capacity before he meets a grim and unmanly demise. Of course that's when the two paladins and two mages in your group step in and start smackin' the guy around. Only takes me a minute to make somebody who's then usefull ! I like the felhunter just fine really, but he's so situational that I tend to only pull him out on the rare pvp occasion, or when I want a change of pace soloing. I've yet to have enough trouble with a caster that I think " Oh hell, if I only had a spell lock on that guy ! " because, the mage class being as popular as it is, the thing is either already locked, or nearly dead because I'm using a different pet. |

That's an interesting idea. I bet this would work especially well with Talents put into fast casting pet.
You know, during an instance, you could not have the fellhunter out except for named casters, for example. It really isn't that big of a hardship to suicide/recast a pet in an environment where you have other party members (ie not soloing and need pet to live) and lots of ability to get shards (ie an instance). Thinking outside of the box sometimes really makes a difference, especially as group/solo tactics can be so different. |

Problm is thats a very short lasting debuff(tainted blood I mean) and fades fairly quicking once the fel hunter is dead/ looses aggro. But to get things started it is a nice way to use em. Also good for debuffing the target with devour magic a couple times before he kicks the bucket, and if the mob does have stuff to be devoured your fel hunter will actually last a decent bit longer.

The fel has become my primary PvE pet.
Pull with CoW and send him in. Give him a few seconds to take the aggro, then Corrupt and Immo. Count 5, switch to CoElem, and then burn them down hard. If I need to drain life or mana, he can tank for quite a while if he needs to. Tainted Blood + CoW is nice. I only really use the succubus anymore if I'm in a high-traffic PvP area. |

I toyed around with the Felhunter a bit as my buddy when out hunting ( on a PvE server ) and I didn't hate the way he played. I did however hate his skills at CC, which the VW and Succ. offer me. Rarely do I get into a situation where I really need it, but the VW can piss things off enough and take the beating, while the Succ. obviously has her ways. The Felhunter though, he just hops around drooling on stuff.

I've been trying to get use from the felhunter in all sorts of places, just for my own amusement, while I'm still in the low 30s and don't have spell lock yet. It's been a mixed bag for the most part, but there have been a couple of high points.
Like Gul mentioned, Felhunter + Curse of Weakness = Good Thing. I made a trip into Shadowfang around 32 to wrap up a quest I left hanging. The voidwalker got ripped apart by adds, the felhunter just laughed at their melee and resisted all of their spells. Granted, I don't need to fight gray elites very often, but it was darned amusing. With CoW, I had one of the really fast hitters in there doing single digit damage. Fighting ogres in Arathi Highlands, the felhunter was easily the best pet. Tainted blood took a serious dent out of their melee damage, and their enrage can be devoured. Toss on a CoW and you've got a mid-30s mob hitting in the 20s. Without a constant stream of things to devour, though, it really doesn't perform anywhere near its best. |
