fire stone and spell stone questions.

Does anyone here use spell stones or fire stones? I can't really think of a situation where I would want to use them. I do use a sword, but the orb I quested for gives me +5 to int and pluses to fire damage. As well as being able to heal if I am desperate.
From my understanding the spell stone gets rid of all effects. Which I take it to mean our armor spell and the resurrection stone. I really don't want to have to wait 30 min for res again just to be able to block some spell damage. Am I missing something here? Are there situations where these items are a godsend?

I just realized that this should be in the summons forum. Is there a way I can move it?

It will be moved, the admin is quick!

I really don't see the point in the Spellstone. When I first got it, I made some, but you really have to know ahead of time, that you're going to be fighting mages. Since it takes thirty seconds for you to be able to activite the Stone.

I was always using the Fire stone, before I did the quest for the Shadow damage+ Orb. That thing is hot. Mmmmm.

What I have a serious problem with is always toting what looks like an orange snow globe. Or some deranged christmas tree decoration. It's sick! They should have totally skinned the stones to look as they're depicted in the Icon. This isn't FFXI! No PS2 limitations!

I generally Use fire stone when im soloing and working up weapon skills (which for some reason im only happy when I max them all.) You can melee caster players in pvp (after youve casted some curses and dots maybe.) and help your pet mess up thier cast time though, and the extra fire damage is nice. The spell stone... the only time I found it useful was when I was pretty sure I was going to die and I wanted to ae a ton of stuff with hellfire.

Firestone i haven't found too useful...yes it does proc quite a bit and bring your damage up but it's not amazingly higher than going 2H melee with a staff...the difference between staff and dagger or sword is just that large that even the firestone has a tough time making up for it. And this assumes you melee at all.

Spellstone i always keep equipped. In on PvP server so in order to quest i'm pretty much in open PvP territory all the time, so being able to remove magic effects as well as put up a nice big magic damage shield is invaluable.

Soulstone is NOT removed by spellstone.

In general, if trying to figure out if something is going to be removed by spellstone or Dispel Magic, the buff must say "magic" on it. Demonic Armor says "magic" next to it, Soulstone effect does not.

That is completely untrue. A warlock using dagger/sword & firestone will inflict more melee damage than meleeing with staff only.

For melee damage, all that matters is the weapon's DPS. A sword/dagger with 30.0 DPS will do the same amount of damage over time that a staff with 30.0 DPS will do. The staff will do more damage per hit, but the sword/dagger will get more attacks due to its quicker Speed. The lower Speed rating for dagger/sword is what makes the Firestone useful. When you are meleeing with a 1.5 speed dagger, that means every 1.5 seconds there is a chance the Firestone will proc. Here is my routine when soloing with dagger/Firestone combo.

1. Pull with Immolate
2. Insta Corruption and Curse of Agony as the mob is coming towards me.
3. Send VW in.
4. Start meleeing.

The mob will last no longer than 30 seconds. Over the course of the fight, the Firestone will proc several times. The total damage from the procs is equal to or higher than the damage from a SP or SB. Very often the firestone will proc so much that you end up drawing aggro. I view this as a good thing. The chances of me dying are very slim and it gives me a chance to raise Defense skill.

Weapon procs are time based, not swing based.

e.g your weapon might proc 5 times in a minute. This means your 2.0 speed dagger has 1 in 6 chance of proccing. Your 4.0 speed staff would have a 1 in 3 chance.

Over time they should proc the same amount.

I thought this only applied to innate procs?

From my understanding they changed weapon procs to this system late in beta. I could be wrong (I have been before), but I recall them changing it for precisely this reason.

Take, for example, the Fiery Weapon enchant. It would be much more valuable on a fast weapon than on a slow weapon if the proc chance was based on hit, and not over time. I think they changed the way procs occured because of the relative usefulness of procs.
