Dead Pet Notification

Hi, does anyone know of a way I can have a clear display of when my pet has died? I rarely notice when it dies in the middle of a fight in Ulduar/ToC, so I need something to make it obvious when my Imp is dead. I'm thinking a macro may be able to do this, but I'm hopeless at that kind of thing!

Re: Dead Pet Notification

You could probably use an event notify to do this... I havent tried it but should work. Search curse

Cant you just take notice of your imp? My imp rarely dies at all in both uld and totc

Re: Dead Pet Notification

If you use MSBT, Parrot, or any other scrolling combat text, you should be able to set up a warning.
MSBT: New trigger, "Pet Died!", Event: "Health Change", "Unit ID - Is equal to - pet", "Threshold - is less than - 1%"
Parrot: just modify the existing "Low pet health", or copy it and make it for a dead pet.

Really? Managing your pet is part of the class. If you don't notice when your pet dies, what else do you fail to notice? Are you that guy always standing in the poison/fire/void zone/etc... If your not paying attention to your surroundings you have bigger issues.

Majestrix, there is a huge difference between noticing a small raidframe has disappeared--not greyed out, but completely disappeared--when it is in a far corner of your screen, and not noticing the huge fire surrounding your character.

And warlocks have almost no pet management to do, particularly with the imp. You tell it to cast fireballs as often as it would like to.

I'm fairly certain the MSBT comes with a pet threshold already set to 30% or something like that. Or maybe I set it up when I set up my Drain Soul execute/ticks, but yeah, it works good.

With all due respect, World of Warcraft is a very simple game. It does not require insane reflexes, nor does it require insane micro. If you can not keep an eye on things like your pet, your health, your surroundings, your enemies health and any raid warnings, you do not need another addon, you need to become a better player. Try playing some RTS games and you'll pretty quickly understand how simple World of Warcraft really is.

I disagree, Do you notice when you are out of mana? Do you notice when your spells are off CD? Do you notice when your DoTs need to be refreshed? Do you take any notice of anything other than the mob you are fighting.

We are warlocks, part of being a warlock is keeping track of your pet. Personally, this is why I prrefer demo over the other specs as it just feels more "warlocky" to me. But, you still have to keep track of your pet as destro. He is not a "fire and forget" button. If he dies your DPS goes down, because of that you need to be aware of him.

Re: Dead Pet Notification

Given that the OP is obviously raiding 25 man content on a regular basis, and that the detractors here are not raiding in that environment (yes, I went and looked at everyone's achievements) I believe we are comparing two vastly different needs.

25 man raids require a LOT of attention to a lot of different things. It is obvious how beneficial something akin to a raid warning that your pet has died could be (or even one warning of low health first). Those of us that play the demonology specs do tend to pay more attention to pet management to begin with...out of necessity, but still, in all that goes on in say the Faction Champion battle I could definitely see where such a warning could be an advantage.

And as for those other things I should be paying attention too...I do use addons to do so. I use Cooldown Watch and I use Quartz...it would be silly to try and monitor the debuffs on the mob to tell when my spells are going to drop off. So, to the OP I would say it is a good question and one worth looking into, to the detractors I would say please realize that not everyone is playing the game just as you are.
