Pet speed v. mount speed

So we all know that our pets are slower than we are and we've all made the mistake of letting them get too far behind and losing them. Last night I hit 40 and got my Felsteed (go me!). I took it for a quick spin around Ratchet and noticed my succ was keeping up pretty well even though I was going faster. Has anyone else notice this? I'm planning on going for a longer run tonight to check, but it seems really odd to me.

You'll lose it, and the only reasoning I can see behind why is this: They don't want you sending pets on people riding horses and have the pets be able to catch them and kill them though you're not there.

When you're on a mount, your pet's speed is automatically increased. Otherwise it would never keep up.

Unfortunately it doesn't keep up >< I had the same problem back in beta. Funny enough, since playing my Hunter, who I always thought there pets keep up because they match with their Spirit of the Cheetah, I still loose my pets on Bree if I get too far away. At least as a Hunter they don't cost me shards ;)

It will keep up for short juants... but if you go full tilt down a road youll eventually leave poor pet behind and poof they gone. If your riding its good to stop for a few seconds if you notice pet falling behind... and if a mob starts
chasing you youll probly loose pet no matter what unless its on passive and your lucky.

your pet keeps up proportionally the same on and off the mount. so when you're mounted your pet will be faster than unmounted. but it's still too slow to keep up over time, just like when running.

Yup. Tried it out last night and found all that is said here to be true. Thanks all.

I will say, having a mount changes everything for me. I found myself running around last night exploring places I'd never been just because it was easier to get there. I guess that just means I'm lazy. Damn.

haha, I did that with the badlands. Never wanted to go there, while I was there I never wanted to get off my mount. Explored it all though.

I think this is the main reason I use my imp so much, even solo.. he doesnt cost me shards when I lose him >.<
