Suspend Minion?

I'd like to see Warlocks have the ability to temporarily suspend our minion, say for griff or boat trips (on boats, sometimes my pet makes it, sometimes he doesn't). When running around questing I find I waste the most shards just by traveling and thus losing my pet in the process. Lots of quests involve flying around to various zones to "talk to soandso" or "turn this thing" in in order to continue. Sometimes I'm on the ground with a pet I just made for a very short time. It would also be handy in cities where you don't want a huge, blue pet blocking yours and everyone elses view. I've tried parking my pet out of the way when I'm in IF, but usually forget about him, get too far away and he poofs.

I played a Beastlord in EQ and with AA points we gained the ability to do this and it proved to be terribly handy. Eventually, with enough AA's spent, we could suspend a pet and summon another - thus giving us a backup pet at the ready. Now that would probably cause people to freak out, but sure would be nice.

Any thoughts?

Re: Suspend Minion?

I agree with you, in the last week or two I have started losing pets as I travel around on the felsteed. It's a pain. Not to mention the alliance level 45 - 50 quests seem to entail a lot of running around on griffon/hippogryphs.

My warlock is heavily specced into demonology and if I know I am going to be doing a lot of travelling I will either pull out the imp or I will just sacrifice the demon and gain the buff from demonic sacrifice. With demonic sacrifice, you still lose the pet and waste a shard, but at least you get something in return. Using the imp at least doesn't cost an additional shard and it's firepower and stamina buff are nothing to scoff at if you get jumped.

Re: Suspend Minion?

The only problem with the trinket (which I did get because its a "one chance" item rather than something I'll upgrade later) is that most locks (from my experience) don't really use Blue at that level. On the other hand, it is great when you need to pop out a no-cost damage shield. BTW, if anybody was wondering, yes, Fel Dom also works on the trinket's cast time.

*edit* Almost forgot ... I agree with the need for some sort of suspend-type ability. I know at one point they had mentioned looking into "shard refunds for lost pets", but I haven't heard anything on it for awhile.

Shards are NOT that hard to come by, my fellow warlocks. Draining souls... it's our thing! The only problem with the Imp's Request Trinket is that it's on a 30 minute cool down. Level 60 warlocks do use their vw's. I used mine plenty in MC last night on those lava packs. Use vw in pvp too, sometimes, when I want access to my own bubble.

Re: Suspend Minion?

yep shards are easy enough to collect, and the trinket is useless for me.
as a destruction 'lock, i use the vw once a week ... just for the garr encounter ^^
it seems blizz dev will look into the fact we loose our pet while using griffon/hippogryphs but it's not for tommorrow ^^

Re: Suspend Minion?

Coming from a previous Hunter turned Warlock, I really miss the ability to just whistle for my pet. There have been times where I have gone on foot if possible as apposed to taking a flight just to avoid loosing my pet, even if it does mean taking longer to get there.

Even if we couldn't suspend our minion, perhaps a spell that allowed us to de-summon them, and it would return a shard? They could give it say a 30 minute cooldown even as I don't tend to catch flights that often unless I am running around doing hand ins, and then I wouldn't summon one anyway.

That is a frustration I am quickly coming to realise with my Warlock though, loosing a shard when taking a flight.

I agree, but with lv70 in expension we will have to travel even further to farm shards i have no problems with farming them despite people always asking me why i dont hearth to IF directly, i just hate having to travel to do so, put up some mobs where we can farm our shards right outside BG's or make grey mobs give us shards. I farm 60+ shards before going to ZG/BG's, dont have a major problem with that as i get some money and reputation in the process but quite often i find myself with not enough time to fill up my bags with shards before a raid to a number im happy with, granted we had mobs to farm for shards in every zone accessible within 5min travel time it would make things much easier.

I havent tried VW in pvp, i always thought about sacrificing VW+Spellstone (do these stack? would spellshield take damage from spells or would sacrifice? perhaps its coded so it damages both shields) and run into a bunch of enemies in BG's and cast Howl but i do use it all the time farming shards, it just gives me that little bit of extra safety if i get feared into another mob or roamer comes by or if im facing 2 mob pull, also what is the benefit of using VW in MC on lava packs (im a MC newbie, only seen the first room, the big hall just past the entrance) i thought felhunter would offer more of a benefit with resists as a demo lock? im not disagreeing with your choice just curioous if you use him for demonic sacrifice or for plain sacrifice to become immune to damage for short time, or perhaps you send him in to give you extra second to cast a spell before it dies, or am i totaly off and you can actually use him to tank in there? One of the giants at entrance ate my pet before it finished casting its taunt, so im little sceptical about VW tanking in MC.

Opps trailed off the topic, after reading some replies sorry.

But yea suspended minion would be awesome, while we're at it i'd love to have swarm (bunch of mini VW's going ape at the mob...lol) and despite not being so great i'd take frenzied burnout as well for the fun factor and from necro AA's ill take crits for dots thats for sure =)
But seriously i think its a great idea, in BG's they could code it so the pet you have suspended is the one that you will respawn with rather than the dodgy script they have now that spawns imp half the time when i want felhunter or succubus so there goes another shard, and with the amount of travelling we are forced to do they should allow us to suspend our pet for gryphon rides, boats i rarely lose my pet only had the misfortune couple of times so far but still, oh and the fear bug that kills me and pet, yet another shard lost :(

Same benefit as on Garr. When you have a mob banished... the VW taunt still works through the banish. When the mob is no longer banished, he'll hit your vw instead of you. Fights on Garr and the lava packs are like
- cast cos
- send vw on mob
- banish
- banish breaks, mob hits vw
- re-banish
- health funnel your vw back to full

Re: Suspend Minion?

thanks...i thought VW would get killed pretty much instantly with no resists on him.

Will have to try that. I've only seen MC up to luci now so little bit of progress since my last post so i dont know much about the instance at all yet, learning on the go as we move deeper doesnt always work in your favour it good to find out how people do things especially when they do it differently than i would in same circumstances. Guess it will avoid me a few deaths.
