The Incubus
This type of thread shows up about once every couple of months, a lot of people must suffer alzheimers. It's the female player that can't handle or doesn't want a female Succubus to follow them around, in the words of this particular poster it's, "kinda weird". Personally I don't see why people bring real life into it when it's got to do with the Succubus, I mean, people don't seem to think having a back talking yellowy on fire Imp following you is "kinda weird". What about a big blue silent blob? that's never labeled as "kinda weird".
Fji Level 44 Gnome Warlock Guild: Dark Heart of Azeroth Realm: Earthen Ring Now, the Succubus is a useful Warlock pet. But lately this idea popped into my head: At level 20, allow the player to choose between a Succubus and an Incubus. You see, I'm a girl, so having the lil' wing-ed stripper following me around is kinda weird. Personally, I'd much prefer an Incubus, the male form of a Succubus, as a second choice! Any fellow she-Warlocks with me? EDIT: Warlocks that have already chosen the Succubus like myself should be able to exchange it or do a short quest to change to Incubus. Some people seemed to be offended by the "pierced nipple" thing, but it was just a thought. Not sure about the colon-cleansing metal-bikini thing the Succubus is wearing either. Tyren Blizzard Poster Whew, I thought this was a thread about the next BlizzCon. Well, it might be an interesting idea, but one of the succubus's main aspects fits the character because the succubus is suppose to be able to "fascinate" mortal males. I'm not quite sure an incubus is suppose to have the same ability. First real Blizzard reply I've seen in relation to this topic... http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...=1#post5841359 |

Re: The Incubus
I actually read that thread on the official forums, and a couple of things stuck out.
1st. Tyren's first comment, "Well, it might be an interesting idea, but one of the succubus's main aspects fits the character because the succubus is suppose to be able to "fascinate" mortal males. I'm not quite sure an incubus is suppose to have the same ability." Comes off more sexist than the fact Blizzard only offer one model. It comes across (to me) that he's saying Females will be attracted to either model, and it doesn't really matter so long as it breaths, where as male's will would be able to resist the attraction to the same sex. 2nd. And this is the thing that really stuck out of me (above was just a nit pick), is that as Angelina mentioned, these types of threads come up all the time, the subject matter has been beaten to death. Yet every time it's brought up, people focus on how wrong it is that female gamers can't choose, how weird it is to have a scantily clad female with a whip running beside you etc. Funny enough no one seems to think twice that you have an Imp that can shoot fireballs from it's hands, a Voidwalker that is basically blue air yet can tank better than someone wearing three tones in plate armor, etc. If players want to start bringing in real world concerns into the game, then there's a hell of a lot more things that should be considered "weird" and "strange" than what model of Succubi/Incubus you have. Then again, perhaps most of them should stop looking at their "pet" as a sexual creature and more so as something that is there to do your bidding. /sigh next they'll be asking for pink voidwalkers |

Re: The Incubus
I'm a female gamer and personally I have no problem with my female succubus, in fact I think she's fantastic. While I can see how some female gamers would want a male version, I think it's more their insecurities that see having a female version as "kinda weird". Given what we are playing, a game with dragons and walking talking cows (Taurens), I don't agree with the real life aspect a lot of people seem to bring into the argument. And if you want to go by some lore, Incubi aren't exactly nice when they come to get what they want...
If they did bring in an option to choose, I would still choose the Succubus. They would probably end up giving the male version little silver hot pants, and then see all the females scream how they had a "gay looking" Incubus. |

![]() Oh, Zip. Jeez, sexist? There is logic behind Blizzard's reasoning. Women are more known for seducing men. How many men do you see seducing women? Also as another poster mentioned, in lore the succubus seduces men to do evil deeds, while the incubus is a rapist. I really doubt Blizzard wants to glorify or even allow that to go on in their game. |

Re: The Incubus
I was a casual reader until I saw this thread, it's absolutely ridiculous!
First and foremost, as many of you already know, the population in WoW is comprised mostly of men, that being said, a succubus is very fitting as a warlock pet, regardless of the sex you choose to play, or your real life sex. Another thing, most of the women I've talked to in-game simply don't mind the succubus, she's sexy, this adds an element of power to the warlock, regardless of the gender. Not that it matters what they look like anyways, because it's all about their abilities. In that respect, yeah, a succubus looks like a stripper, she is vastly more capable of captivating the minds of men, than say... another man is. Why is looking like a stripper a bad thing? It's a position of power, any woman capable of using her body for robbing men of their money without fornication is not only an amazing tactician, but also pretty damn sly. Simply put, men, myself included at times, are entirely too weak to resist the temptations of a gorgeous young lady. What's wrong with being a sexy warlock, and having a sexy partner in crime to covort about and seduce simple-minded fools with? olIn closing, and not to sound too stereotypical or sexist, most of the women who dislike the succubus style are: A) Jealous, or B) Pious. What I mean by those, I'll leave to your imagination. |
