Warlock and Power Leveling

I have some friends joining WoW, and I'm going to be giving them lots of buffs in a bottle (300 Alchemy!!!!), however I wouldn't mind hanging out with them and trying to Power Level them.

My thoughts are to have the Imp out, and either be grouped with them, giving them blood pact and fireshield (assuming that they will still get exp), and tossing in a Howl of Terror or Fear if things go bad for them, OR just hanging around and giving them fireshield and fears when things go bad.

My question is can I Fireshield non-groupies? can't remember at the moment, and in addition to it being patch day (1.8.4), I'm at work....

Huh, good question, you would think it'd just be a friendly target so yes, which would be nice cos you don't want to be grouped with them.

Just have them tag a bunch of mobs and then you hellfire them to death ungrouped. You will level them in no time, or have they made adjustments to XP gain because you used to be able to do stuff like that?

Re: Warlock and Power Leveling

My girlfriend used her 48 Mage to help PL my Warlock to 40. We found the most efficient way to get xp is for her to take me through lots of orange/red quests. I go around and do whatever lower levels quests I can in a zone and then she comes in to help me with the higher level and elite ones. I don't much xp while we're killing the quest mobs, but I get tons for turning in anywhere from 7-10 quests at one time. We tried not grouping and taggng a bunch of mobs for her to AE down, but even if I do half the damage I don't get much xp. We found the quest route to be the best way to go and I managed to make 40 with a little over 7 days played.

Re: Warlock and Power Leveling

Imp won't put on a damage shield if the target isn't in your party. Even if they are in your raid, it won't work - they gotta be directly in your party.

Try not grouping and putting curse of weakness on the mob. It does no damage, so it shouldn't steal xp. But a low level mob with a level 60 lock's weakness on shouldn't hit for much at all.

Re: Warlock and Power Leveling

Good call, debuff them.

You could go the other route, instead of ungrouping in an apprpriate level area, you could try grouping in a high level zone and see what kind of XP she gets while you're killing mobs 10-20 levels above her.

Re: Warlock and Power Leveling

I powerleveled a couple of friends when they came over to WoW and I have to agree with Gnotime, helping them through quests was the quickest way. For the ones they could do solo, simply chuck a Curse of Weakness on the mob and let them take it. For the harder quests, I did it in group and munched through so they could hand in, they lost the kill XP, but got the most benefit from the quest hand in.

Also too running them through all their instance quests helped. Most people don't get to go to each instance until they are above the quests anyway, but with you, you can power them through them while they're still red.

Unfortunately in or out of a group, if you do too much damage on a mob you will suck out most of the XP. We tried killing mobs my level (so they were higher to my lowbie friends), but I still took 99% of the XP, and it was more trouble watching them so they didn't die every 3 seconds. Best bet is to just help them through what ever quests they need... as they level, it get's quicker.

As a side note, it's easy to power level with a druid, I borrowed a guildies druid and the thorns made it nice and easy hehe.
