Voidwalker at 60

Hi all!

Site got linked on the guild forum and I don't know how I ever lived without it! Excellent work /bow

I have a question for the "experts" if you like. I asked the other guild Warlock (there's only two of us) but he's not a huge Pet user, preferring to do the damage himself and has the pet as assistance. Myself, I'm all about the pet with me adding additional damage via my DoT's and the like, but in general, pet's play a large part of my Warlock life. Now, I'm not sure if this should be under "Pets" or "Talents" so I apologize right off the bat for that, but I'm curious to hear from other "Pet Warlocks" how often they use the Voidwalker past 50...

I'm a Demonology spec and when I was a wee little Warlock, used the Voidwalker all the time so naturally got the Improved Voidwalker talent. Now though, I have been using the Succubus for a while (25 levels) and prefer her over the Voidwalker any day. I have been looking at respeccing to retrieve those three talents I put into Improved Voidwalker (to put to better use) but am not sure if I will regret it later on.

From what I can tell, it really only improves his abilities such as Taunt, the Heal one etc and doesn't really effect his hitpoints for tanking ability. Since I would keep the two that improve the health and mana across all pet's, I figured if I dropped the 3 that improve only his abilities, it wouldn't effect it too much if I needed him every blue moon.

How often, in places like Scholo, Strat, as well as MC and BWL is the Voidwalker pulled out? Looking for feedback on 5 mans, 10 mans and raids etc, would I regret removing the points?

Thankyou for your time.
Sorry I talk so much!

Almost never. One place in molten core its good to have a blueberry, but even then it isn't that important. And he just kinda needs to be there, doesn't have to be improved at all.

First - Welcome Aboard. Next...

You have my approval to lose the 3 points in VW for other places if you are looking to raid 10 and 40 man zones specifically

All kidding aside. For raid type situations the only time that big blueberry is called on is to sacrifice him and gain insane HP / Regen. Most of the time you will be asked to give a HP buff with your imp so certain fights when you have enough warlocks (Ony / Ragnaros) the HP regen is nice when you probably wouldn't see as many heals as normal. In the 60 game - you might use him to hunt shards but a loty of his use is either with Demonic Sacrifice or Feling for him to sacrifice him normally for the shield.

Re: Voidwalker at 60

Have been looking for this place since I was born 60lvl's ago in the land of Zenedar.
Finally a place where we can get away from the endless whining of the other classes and get some work done!
We own them any day anyway. Even if we lose actually...

I can't help being fond of my voidy because I have played as a lonely wolf a long time. But I have to admit he's best for getting the shards. With improved Succy, you will actually loose the aggro later than with voidy if you play your dots right.

I still use him in some situations where it calls for massive aoe damage. Sacrifice the fluffy blue one for the best shield in the game and hit Spellstone while firing the enemy to hell without killing yourself or lose channeling time.

I am still learning the other pets and their uses, so I have no new favourite yet, but feel free to give tips.

I also still use voidy when I travel alone, incase of ambush or 'two on me' encounters.
Sacrifice for shield, Fel dom and foxy lady.

Re: Voidwalker at 60

I use the Voidwalker pretty often actually (SL/NF here, 33/18).
Thing is, I dunno if it was 1.8.4, but some patch around there stealth-fixed that the Imp-VW talent did not affect the taunts. One of those days, from one day to the next, I noticed my Voidwalker was a lot more effective at keeping aggro.

With ~55% damage-absorbtion, ~5k HP buffed, and the new&improved aggro-talent and the +20% damage, it's not bad at all for an offtank.
Though if you want to use it in groups, make sure they understand that they have to give him 2-3 Torments until they start doing stuff ^^

Re: Voidwalker at 60

I use the voidwalker from time to time in instances to offtank a mob, but only when we 4man instances or when we lack other CC.
He seems to manage that quite well even though he isn't improved (with healing ofcourse).
Also I instasummon+sacrifice him before AoE if we lack a mage.
He wouldn't manage to offtank anything in ZG or MC, but then he doesn't need to either.

Re: Voidwalker at 60

Thank you all very much for your replies, I feel a little more certain in removing those three points from Improved Voidwalker now. I am not quite ready to respec just yet, mostly because I am not sure as to where I will put the now 8 points left over (previously 5) but if gives me something to think about.

Re: Voidwalker at 60

I actually use my voidwalker a lot in groups. Though to be fair, the group I'm usually with is made up of people I have been in guilds with since early in my Everquest career, so we work well together.

Strangely enough I use big blue mostly as crowd control.

We're a pretty efficient group, and we don't like playing with just one mob, so we usually have 4 or 5. I send the VW in on one, drop Cor and Curse of Agony, then switch targets. I wait for taunt to go off, and tell him to attack the new target. Cor and Curse of Agony again then switch targets, while taunt is refreshing and tell him to attack the third. Drop Cor and Curse of Agony on the third and switch to see if I have time to blast or drain the mob the rest of the group is working on. If I need to refresh agro, I just cycle the blueberry through the mobs. The puller in our group can then peel one off at a time until everything is dead.

Works pretty well since the VW can tank three elites that are two levels higher for a fair amount of time. Longer if your healer is keeping an eye on him.

I don't think it was the talent that was improved I think his taunt overall was improved. The talent is just much sweeter in regards to that. Me I never got improved VW (or succubus for that matter I am a felhunter junkie in PvP so really no need for it). But I do agree my VW has been holding agro fairly easy. I also learned its much better manually taunting then auto taunting. It saves alot of mana since his torment is on a 5 sec cooldown and thats not enough time for mana regen to kick back in. I can push his torment back by 3-4 seconds and he has alot more mana at the end of fights then using auto-torment.

Re: Voidwalker at 60

The talent has always been effective, even with 1 point. Although at 60, you'll never miss it unless you PvP quite a bit in which case a 30% buff to Sacrafice is excellent.

I wouldn't sweat it.
