Warlock Pets - up update
Here is my post that I put on the Suggestion board. Please let me know what you think -
I have been playing a warlock for about 2 months now and am starting to see some strong advantages and limitations to playing one. There are also a few changes that I think would make this class a bit more playable and some things that would be nice addition to the class. 1) When fighting in PvP the imp and the voidwalker are rarely used. a)I would like to see the voidwalker be a bit more useable by treating his taunt as similar to the Rogues distract. Have there be a chance that if the taunt is not resisted then the target is turned towards the voidwalker and have his active taget changed to the voidwalker. b) The Imp would be nice if he was able to have some other abilities that are offencive other then the Flame bolt. Currently pets only have the ability to use 4 powers each, while hunter pets have a mixture of different abilities (over 22 total) that are all selectable by the Hunter. For Imp I would like to see a choice of shadow powers in addition to Fire. This would give the Warlock the option of how to train the pet using Grimores. This could be a Special warlock quest at 25 that a Warlock could do that would give him the ability to summon a Shadow Imp rather then the Fire Imp. Stats could be similar to the Fire Imp, although it would have high resistance to Shadow powers and would use a Shadowbolt and a Engulf in Shadows that circles around the target in shadows. This would reduce their shadow resistance, and either slow attack speed, or reduce chance to hit. 2) For higher level Pets/Slaves It would be ideal to have a high level pet that would match the level of stuff that you will be fighting. a) The Infernal and Doomguard are the two high level 'pets' if you can call them that. Each of them is difficult to bring in to play and once they are here you have to spend time attempting to control them. Hunters, being the other pet class in the game, have the ability to charm a pet and then they never have to worry about it again. If they loose the pet in battle, they just have to recall it, and they are back to normal. They may have to feed the pet, but food drops everywhere, or can be bought at almost every town. To use the Infernal is a great ability that is doable by yourself, although in a short amount of time you could have it turn on you and kill you, or your party. The Doomguard is even more difficult needing 5 people to summon one, and one of them will die when the spell is done. A quest for the infernal could be added that when complete you get an Infernal Remains. These can be combined with a Soul Shard to create an Infernal. The cooldown would be 30 mins on the Remains, and the Infernal lasts for for either the 30 mins or until destroyed. In the Demonology Talent Tree there could be a Extend Infernal. This would increase the amount of time that the Infernal could be in existance by 2 mins per level for 5 levels. This would give the longest amount of time one could be out would be 40 mins, but it could be resummoned at the end since the cooldown is only 30 mins. b) Enslaving demons is a great idea but is in many ways limited to the same problems of the Infernal in that the demon is freed after a variable amount of time. This power, or set of powers, could be made a bit more usefull in the overall scheame of things if they were able to be controled without the danger of turning on the Warlock, or having the demon be neutral for a few moments (as he gets his bearings to see where he is at or what is going on) In the Demonology Talent Tree there could be below Improved Enslave Demon, requiring all 5 points in Improved Enslave Demon. This would allows the Warlock to enslave a demon who then is treated like a Hunter pet. This pet then requires Soul Shards as 'food' and will have 4 ranks of personality. Servent, Protector, Follower, and Distressed. Servent - The demon follows the actions of the Warlock without any question, and will fight at 125%. Protector - The demon will not act aggressivly, but will attack if requested, and will defend the Warlock. While in this state, the demon fights at 100%. Follower - The demon will be similar to being on Passive all the time. He will attack if commanded, but will not attack back even if he is attacked. While like this the demon fights at 75%. Distressed - In this state the demon has a chance of attacking the target if commanded, or he may turn on the Warlock. If he is not commanded to do anything special, then he will just follow the warlock around, but his state will continue to degrade until 'fed'. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...hreadID=731939 |

Re the Infernal / Doomguard. We are not hunter's, we don't have cute little fury pet's to happily jump into battle and protect us. We summon creatures that are somewhat forced to do it for us. Ever listened to the Imp for long enough? The Infernal and Doomguard's are higher versions of these, so it sort of makes sense we have trouble controlling them (trouble= enslave) |

Yes hunter pets are stronger then most of the pets you can summon up to felhunter. However you have a very diverse range of things your pets can do. Every songle hunter pet falls into three categories and those three categories are very similar.
Warlocks have pets for buffing, pets for some direct damage and a nice buff, pets that can cc and have highing dps and pets that can eat spells and increase your magic resists. I dont think your really lacking variation here. |

Another thing...
VW isn't that bad in PvP. I have actually been using it more now as a level 27 warlock than my imp. My reasoning is that sacrafice is an amazing tool in order to esacpe bad situations. I have used it many times now in order to save myself and get off a final hit on another player. |

Re: Warlock Pets - up update
Actually most of the levelling game is solo orientated. 99% of the time, those under 60 solo all their quests unless they're elite or dungeon ones. Even Blizzard stated that you can solo all the way to 60 (Crypt's guides prove that) and you never need to group.
