How does Phase Shift work for an Imp?

I was talking over with a fellow warlock in the guild and he said that phase shift makes the imp not being able to take damage by anything (therefore always staying alive). I'd beg to differ kuz sometimes even with phase shift out my imp still dies .. and i think mainly it's with AoE's. What exactly does Phase Shift do? Is it just an agro reducer, but still allows the imp to get attacked or what? I ask this because I put points into 5/5 fel stamina thinking more hp for the imp would help out more in regards to having the imp stay alive .. his logic was that it's a waste because the imp never dies because of phase shift .. what's correct?

Phase shift keeps the imp invulnerable to hostile effects when he's out of combat. As soon as he goes into combat, the effect disappears. Useful if you are Dark Pact as it will protect him from enemy AoE if he's on passive.

I don't know that fel stamina is going to make him that much hardier but it'll certainly help you out if you go Soul Link with the VW/FH/Succubus.

so in a sense that as a PvE raid build .. since the imp is always on passive & phased shift .. theoretically it shouldn't die unless i set it to attack & it's in combat .. so if that's true then fel stamina i guess doesn't serve a purpose if all it does is stay & is phased shifted to give the blood pact boost.

with that said .. do you guys think fel domination & master summoner are worth it?

Re: How does Phase Shift work for an Imp?

I personally dont, as its mainly good for soloing as you can summon something in real fast while you have an enemy feared/banished, but for end game content where your in a group you are most likely not going to be using your void to tank or succubus to do damage, mainly the imp, or felhunter to take on casters. I notice that when im in a group its imp all the way, he gives +stamina, and i dont use him in combat because hes not that good PVE, just leave him phase shifted and since hes not fighting he doesnt lose mana and the imp recovers mana quite quickly as it is so I use him as a battery, simply waiting for him to get some mana for me to steal(afflictin talent tree). Hope this helps you out.

As to whether or not FelDom and MS are worth it, it depends on how you play your warlock. I see the value in those talents (nearly instant VW sac shield is really nice) and I don't think I'd go into the demonology tree without them.

Bear in mind that my current build has absolutely no talents in Demonology - I tried it and didn't like it.

Harnessing Shadows 2 by Radagast will show you just how useful the master summoner and fel dom can be, the last fight especially. I'd like to see any sm/ruin or destruction lock do that.
