Doomguard = Worthless
Hi everyone, new poster here.
I'm a 60 OrcLock. Can someone please explain to me how they think the Doomguard is usefull in any way? The Doomguard can be summoned two ways. The ROS is insaine. So at the COST of one person's death, we get a Doomguard that is easily solo'd. So far, a Warrior, Shaman, Rogue, Rejuv spec Druid, Mage have easily beaten my doomguard. If it takes 5 people to summon and one person DIES from the summoning, the risk outweighs what you get in return. Now, IMO, if it takes 5 people and one death (Or cast COD on some low level thing and hope) the Doomguard should be just as strong as a Doomguard Commander(level 61 Elite). Something that shouldn't be able to be solo'ed. Maybe a Dreadlord elite. Keep the same timers. You know it'll be almost certain death for the Warlock, but at least you get something that can kick *** and make the RISK worth it. For a guy who made a Warlock, just for a doomguard, I was very disappointed. BTW: I always use the Infernal, I find it more usefull than a Doomguard could ever be. |

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
Never use the Infernal or Doomguard other than as a novelty. Heard the Infernal is useful in a BG occasionally, but since I don't do that I can't comment. As for Doomguard, they are useful for something, but don't remember what. Something about their AoE helping a lot. Maybe for the dreadsteed quest? /shrug I don't remember. I was half asleep when I got mine.
At any rate, warlock pets have, and always will be, situational. |

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
I have the spell and even carry a few of the charms required to cast one, but never have. I have not gotten into a situation where I felt it would be worth the trouble. Infernal is bad enough, but at least he doesn't require a group. much less a death to summon one, plus he's under your control when first summoned. I don't find either of our higher summoned pets to be very practical.

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
First let me start by saying I'd LOVE to see Curse of Doom useable in Battlegrounds on PCs
That said, and this is something I've not been able to organize but.... In most AV battles I'm in, just as the Alliance is about to take out the Horde General, the Horde PCs break through and capture the Stormpike Graveyard and just keep pushing until they bust through and take out the towers. I'd like to put a stop to this, but alas, breaking through the wall of PC Attackers (to say nothing of the NPCs who start guarding the graveyard) and retaking the Graveyard is nigh impossible. I'm wondering what the expression on the faces of the horde would be if they saw a Doomguard flanked by two Infernals crossing the bridge.... |

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
The main advantage of the Doomguard is that it can be used with DS and costs no ingredients like the infernal does. If you are DS specced and run a DS VW with a Doomguard under your control then you are a 1man-army that can do things which others need teams for.
Of course im also unhappy with the way the DG is called....but when you have one then great. Its not exactly fair to say a DG is worthless because it can be soloed by another player. We get it in addition to our own character - the Warlock - which is 100% effective when running DS so the DG is good enough imo - should just be more easy to call one ![]() To give you an example for its use: In times when my equipment was bad i had trouble soloing the Silithus bosses at the twilight camps. I had a 75% success rate but that was not good enough as it still meant i would loose the 3 twilight items in every 4th fight for nothing. So i started using CoD while grinding and whenever i succesfully called a DG i called a boss and used the DG to kill it. These days my equipment is better and i dont need the DG anymore - but its an example for its use...whenever you have some rare fights which need more power, then a rare demon as reinforcement is fine imo. |

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
I'd be curious to know if there is some trick to maximize your chances of getting a doomguard using CoD ? Does CoD have to be the fatal blow ? I was bored last night, over in Burning stepps killing elementals just to see if they would drop anything worth having. I killed lots of them using the CoD, banish, banish trick. A few seconds after each last banish expired, CoD kicked in and instant kill. Kind of mind numbing, but very effective. For the first time ever, I had a Doomguard pop after one of my kills. It took me quite by surprise and almost died before I got him under control. I used him a short while, then parked him and rode off. I have used CoD lots, and this was a first for me.

Re: Doomguard = Worthless
No experience mind you, but from everything I have read Curse of Doom has 10% chance to summon a Doomguard if and only if CoDoom gives the killing blow.
Can some of the long time raiding warlocks chime in? I know that CoDoom is used on bosses occasionally and it would be good confirmation if they have never seen a Doomguard so long as one of the raid's CoDoom did not get the kill. |
