Forum Rules Rewrite - Your chance to speak up!
Something I have been working on for a while now (slowly, here and there) is redoing the forum rules thread. The last version was written January 01, 2007, and it's been bugging me for a while as I'm not too keen on some of the wording, layout etc. So I've been working on changing it.
Before I set the new page live however, I'm seeking any and all feedback on the rules of the site! Don't like a rule and want it gone? Tell me. Think one rule is too strict? Not strict enough? Confusing? Speak up! Think I'm a stark raving lunatic Nazi with a superiority complex on a power trip of destruction? Let it rip! Now is the chance for you to have your say! Speak now or forever hold your piece! I'm not saying that I will do what everyone says of course, but all feedback will be read and considered. So come on, give it to me! |

Rules are for the obedience of fools & the guidance of wise men (or women-politcally correct now

Re: Forum Rules Rewrite - Your chance to speak up!
The way you have been modding this site has made it into the powerhouse it is today. I spend more time here then any other site (save maybe engadget). One would think after 3 years and about 150 days played on my lock, I'd know it all; but I am always amazed at the new tips and tricks I learn here.
Now - to forum rules - I think you've struck a balance between come as you are (official forums) and strict moderation (EJ), and I can't recommend any changes. So yeah, I wasted three paragraphs to say 'don't change anything.' |

Re: Forum Rules Rewrite - Your chance to speak up!
I read over the rules again, and as usual, Akasha, you have done a fine job! There are a couple minor grammatical changes I could offer (several in the "no racism" paragraph), but you'll probably see them when you re-read them.
I just have to add this quote from Pirates of the Caribbean that I think of whenever people talk about rules: Elizabeth: Wait! You have to take me to shore. According to the Code of the Order of the Brethren. Captain Barbarossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner. LOL |

The rules you have laid down are great! I don't/can't see any reason for a change in the rules. Keep up the great work!!

You may feel you need to reword some things but I don't see it. They are clear and well explained without coming off sounding like a Nazi. Personally I wouldn't change any of the rules, I think you've gotten it about right. Not too loose, not too tight, most of them anyone with some common sense shouldn't even need to be told.

Personally, I think the forum rules are fine. To restate what has already been said they are the right balance between strict and casual.. which is likely why so may people help burn your bandwidth quota before the month is up.

Re: Forum Rules Rewrite - Your chance to speak up!
I would just like to point out that not all the poeple that visit this site and contribute to the forums are warlock professionals.... although some of us hate the terms noob or nub.... a lot of us are and everyone was a noob at one point or another..
Lets keep in mind when replying to us noob's.... speak to us with laymans terminology, I am still deciphering some of the abreviated responses... and make your replys with the sense of paying forward your knowledge with a courteous smile and not a smart wiseguy reply like you are god's gift to warlockdom... Akasha... You have done a most excellent job at this site.. it is my favorite and I have learned more here than anywhere... thanks to the advice from my fellow warlock at this site I am usually #2 and sometimes #3 in my DPS meter going through kara.... The forum terms of this site are second to none.... I wouldn't change a thing. |

Re: Forum Rules Rewrite - Your chance to speak up!
I would suggest that you add a section telling people to please use the search feature before starting a new thread as their question has most likely been asked before. You could then go into the details of using google search, the quick search, and the advanced search (as well as tags).
Also, I would include something in there about being respectful to the admins and moderators. If you disagree with a moderation and think that you have not broken one of the forum rules then <insert whatever you think appropriate here> however, understand that you are a guest at the site and it is a privilege to post on it. If you don't like the way the site is being run then the option always exists to simply not use the forums. Everything else looks very reasonable to me. |
