Post linking
Hello,
Was wondering what the site rule is with regards to linking to posts at the den? I have taken a couple guides and posted them on my guilds site with the link to the original Den post and indicate that I take no credit for the information posted. I also put the original posters name (with Den profile link) in the thread giving them full credit. -Oli |

I believe that is the case with most guides here, have a look at the fine print at the bottom: Quote:

Re: Post linking
As you haven't noted which guides have been copied then until such time as their respective authors grant you permission to copy the either the guides in their entirety, or sections thereof I'll have to ask that you remove any material from your guild site so that we avoid further issues.
You are of course free to link the guides as outlined above but as I clearly can't comment on behalf of the authors then you'll have to seek approval for each one you wish to copy seperately - thanks to Crypt for clarifying his position. |

Re: Post linking
As Crypt pointed out, there is the 'fine print' located at the bottom of the site which mentions that guides are copyright the site and their owners and they are not to be copied or redistributed.
On a personal note, I work very hard to make this site the best I can, and work very closely with the guide writers to format and help the over all 'look' of the guide - so it's not just their work you are taking, but mine also. The guides also bring a lot of readers to this site, which in turn helps the site grow. This directly affects me personally as the more that use the site, the more the ads are shown, the more the site can survive and give back to it's members. At the moment there are no prizes being given out, which ironically are normally given to the guide writers, because I simply can not afford it. The monthly fees have gone up with the latest server upgrade, along with other general expenses, and the rise in people blocking the ads funding the site, means I don't have anything left. Previously I was able to give out game cards (or similar) monthly to those who had contributed to the site as a way of saying thankyou. This month, I've just got everything crossed I can cover the bills. There is also the fact that guides can, and usually do, become somewhat out of date. When the authors update them here, the updated work does not reflect on your copy, which is why if you simply provide a link to the original source, the readers can make sure they have the most up to date version available. Linking back also gives much better recognition to the authors, as well as allows people to provide feedback directly. When you copy the entirety of a guide somewhere else (which I can see you've one with at least one guide), people aren't going to bother clicking the link when the information is right in front of them. On the other hand, if people are linked to the site to read the guide, they may just find other useful threads to read. Or even better, they may find enough useful things to register and become an active and contributing member of the site. We might get a lot of readers, but there are still so many Warlocks out there that don't know the site exists, or do know, but haven't been here to check or haven't been back in a long time. We're just scraping the surface of the Warlocks out there... and I want them ALL! The short version to that response is - please don't. Provide a simple link back to the guide is great, that's exactly what we're looking for. But please don't copy and paste. Help the site that has (hopefully) helped you. |

Re: Post linking
Sorry if I have offended or caused any undue strife to the administration and / or the membership of the Den. My intent was not malicious, but one to bring information to the other locks in my guild.
None of my postings went without a link back to the original guide, the den or the authors profile. I have since removed all guide postings on my guilds forum and replaced them with a single thread linking the user back to the Den to read each individual guide. You can view the forums here (not positive if they are private). Again, I apologize for being a knuckle head and acting before asking. -Oli |

Re: Post linking
I don't think you've offended anymore - a clarification on that subject and was probably helpful to more than one person and on a personal note I think it speaks volumes that you were prepared to ask and then take steps to rectify any potential errors.
Don't worry - its all resolved to everyone's satisfaction. |
