The Library has a new look!

The Library has been getting a lot of love this past couple of months. First it was moved from down the bottom of the forum to the top, and this weekend has been give a massive overhaul! With all the super fantastic members contributing to the site more often now, some of the guides were getting lost on the second or third pages in the forum section used to house everything. I toyed with the idea of a Wiki, because every site seems to be doing them lately, but I really like giving everyone the ability to reply to posts, which you just can't do with a Wiki. I created, deleted, recreated and deleted again an index page. Then I looked around, found the perfect answer and have spent the majority of my day tweaking and playing.

And voila! I bring you the new look Warlocks Den Guide Library!!

It's all fairly self explanatory once you start having a look around. Basically we now have 'categories' with in the Library to better sort the guides, but most of all, to allow everyone to better find the guides. The Library section of the forum is going to stay for a while, although it's no longer a forum section but a direct link to the new Library. This also means the 'Submit your Guide here' sub-section is gone... but the new Library has a built in submission feature! Simply click the Submit a Guide feature at the top!

For the guide writers out there, this move makes this heaps (tons!) easier for you! Not only does it give you the ability to always edit your guides now, it brings in a new feature - Drafts! This means that you can now save your guides as drafts, meaning that the entry will not be visible to the public until published. This means you can work on it as you go without having to worry about it being published before your ready, or having to add 50 replies to a thread as per the previous way.

But it's not just the guide writers that benefit - EVERYONE does! If you're a registered member of the forum, you can now add guides to a 'favourites' menu. By simply selecting 'Add to Favourites' under the Guide Options menu available on every guide, you can create your own list of guides that you can find by simply returning to your 'My Favourites' menu option on the Library index.

There are soooo many more benefits than just those listen, I'm practically giddy with excitement over it all! I would like to thank the member (who requested to remain anonymous) for his generous donation to the site that allowed for the purchase of this new feature.

Wow Akasha,

I love the way you restructured the Guides. That makes them so much easier to sort through and find specific ones.

I love the favorites feature! Now its even faster to get to them guides I frequently visit. And I really really like the Featured Guides and Most visited guides. I think you chose the perfect way to handle that section. Well done! And thank you to the guildie that requested to remain anonymous but showed enough support to help make this happen.

Very nice - Helps a lot as though I have no particular issue to search for at moment, makes it really easy to browse and just pick up bits of interest :-)

Re: The Library has a new look!

Ahh, after much review and visiting, I have found the Library lacking one important feature. Where would I go to request a guide?

Recently, while reading the "Chaos Bolt - Where does this leave Soul Fire?" thread, and looking over the math It occurred to me that I had no clue what I was reading. If I wanted to dive deep into theory craft and crunch a few of them numbers I've read about, where would I start? what numbers would I need to begin my crunching? I'm clueless.

Some things I'd like to learn how to do:
Understanding coefficients and how they impact a spell. With Wrath coming out there are many changes to spells that I'd like to understand a little better.
About figuring if X item is better than Y item taking into consideration the use effect or the +haste and how it may influence my casts vs the +crit the other item has.
How about this talent spec vs that one? If I move 5 points from this talent into those two talents, what would that gain me? or what would I loose?

I'd like to request a "Beginners Guide to Theory Crafting" if I could. Additionally, I'd like to see a section on Requesting Guides in the Library. That way, if someone is itching to write a guide, suggestions would be available that people want to see.

Re: The Library has a new look!

Hi Akasha,

I noticed the new section in the library for requesting guides, I wanted to put my suggestion up there, but uh... I'm not sure how. It appears that it functions like the guide pages rather than the forum pages. Do I click the link at the top that says "submit a guide"?

Also, I don't want to make any more work for you, but that forum Skin I created that you recently put up (/cheers) isn't working correctly in the library. The background image behind the logo is missing. The rest looks good though.

Yup. Click the 'Submit a Guide' link and just fill in the fields as if it were a post. Unfortunately because of the way it works, all area's function the same way. I can't make one area act like the forum does...

I'll have a look at the skin.

Ah ok, yeah notice what you're saying. Not too sure what I can do about it though unfortunately. Because the program for the Library is created by a different person than vBulletin, it looks like they have done some things differently. If I change the settings to make it look right in the Library, it's going to stuff it up across the forum.

I'll have a better look at it over the weekend (when I've had more sleep) and see if I can do anything.
