Win a copy of Wrath of the Lich King!

Not everyone has the ability to scour the internet every day for news and updates about the current Wrath of the Lich King beta, and even less have been accepted and can give the info and screenshots first hand. But that shouldn't rule you out from being able to WIN a copy of the expansion! So I'm kicking off a new contest!

A day in the life of your character!

What is it?
A short story (writing) contest about 'a day in the life of your character'! Very simply, write a short story from the perspective of your character covering a day in the life of. It can be as tame or adventurous as you'd like, it doesn't have be an actual day, it can be completely made up, like a 'dream' day. The only rules are:
  • It must be written from your characters perspective
  • Must take place in World of Warcraft
  • And must use actual WoW locations and mobs
  • Only one entry per person... so make it a good one!
How long do you have?
The contest will run from now until the 31st of October 2008.

How do you submit an entry?
All entries must follow these steps in order to be considered:
  1. Create a new thread under The Tavern section of the forum.
  2. Title the thread [Wrath of the Lich King Short Story Entry: A day in the life of <your character name>]
  3. Reply to this thread with a link to your entry.
How do you win?
I will be watching all the threads for member feedback posted to each story to garner which ones everyone likes the most. I will then choose the best 5 entries to be put to vote. Who ever comes out with the most votes, as voted by the members, wins a copy of Wrath of the Lich King!

Simple. Good Luck!

No good at writing? Here are other ways to win a copy:
  1. Post news and information about what's happening in the current Beta
  2. Post screenshots of the current Beta!

Great idea Akasha!

I'm curious though, are we going to end up with stories that are 25 pages or longer? Is there a word count restriction we should be aware of?

While my Chronicles of Pernicious would probably work, I think I'll start a fresh new story ;)

So how strict is the rule about being from my character's perspective? Is an omniscient third-person narrator ok, or should it strictly be from the character's point of view? Thanks.

My thoughts exactly. I will likely just take something from my personal blog (would be a good test to see if I should write something in a blog here) and touch it up a bit, though the stories I have are a bit long.

Hrm, yes, length. I thought about it last night, but in my tired stage (tooth #7 currently making is grand, and disruptive apperance) my answer was "well, short"

I've done some googling and have found the following:
Source: Short story - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Determining what exactly separates a short story from longer fictional formats is problematic. A classic definition of a short story is that one should be able to be read it in one sitting, a point most notably made in Edgar Allan Poe's essay "The Philosophy of Composition" (1846). Other definitions place the maximum word length at 7,500 words. In contemporary usage, the term short story most often refers to a work of fiction no longer than 20,000 words and no shorter than 1,000. Stories less than 1,000 words are usually referred to either as "short short fiction" or "short shorts" or even "Flash Fiction."[1]
I figure, being able to read it in one sitting is a good easy reference. For example, my latest novel The 'Closed Threads' Thread Reply! was just over 6,000 words long. So I figure nothing over 10,000 words would be a good mark. Gives enough room for something decent, but not too long that it takes forever to read.

Um... So long as it still covers 'a day in the life of your character', then I think it should be ok. The reason for that rule is I didn't want a traditional story that covers multiple characters and story lines. Basically the gist of it has be to about your character and the day in the life of.

Oopsy, I just realized I never posted back to this thread as per your requirements. I see that you linked to my post up there anyway, but I like to follow through with things, so here goes:
