Why are there no private messages?

I was going to take something up with someone in private, but I can't

Re: Why are there no private messages?

I would like PMs as well, but it's better for me not having em, that would decrease my already low posting.

Utilize the 'Contact Us' button at the bottom of the forum; anything moderator related will be posted in the moderator forum or forwarded as needed.

Re: Why are there no private messages?

This has actually come up quite a few times in the past. Don't have time to search for my lengthy response on it (just got up, haven't had breakfast), but basically:

- We are an information/learning forum and when people ask questions or seek help via private messages, it takes the discussion away from the general public and other people that could benefit from it.

- Certain forum members get hounded by everyone. For example how many people would be bugging Canadiampimp for gear help?

- Prior to turning them off, Private Messages were not policed and as such, people were abusing others for what they said in the open and it caused a lot of aggravation for those involved and even caused a few to leave the site because of it.

- They were being hit up by gold sellers and spam posters

- They were being abused by other website owners to try and promote their site and pull members over. One Warlock site a few years ago for the "elite", started by an upset member springs to mind.

It's mostly because of the first reason however...

QFT, I already harass the mods enough without it with the current channels, they would need to ban my IP, and a couple of others, to be spamm free if this happens.

How long does it generally take for a reply using "Contact Us"?

Definitely the ugly side to it, and I guess the content being what it is, warcraft related, goldspammers and keyloggers are always a problem.

As much as I'd still like PMs, (maybe for members with at least 10-25 posts to kill off bots?) I can fully understand your reasoning behind it. And hey, it's your site, you run it how you want
