A friendly reminder on the conduct required for posting

As Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King draws closer with every day, it's completely understandable for people to be excited, not only for what's coming, but also to discuss what's coming. That excitement however, has brought about the need to give everyone a friendly reminder on the conduct required for posting at The Warlocks Den. To start with, I'd like to address a couple of the forum rules that I have been seeing broken repeatedly by some members lately.

Profanity/Language
The Forum Rules are very clear on this one, it's not to happen on this site. I understand other websites don't care about it, and you can do it all you like in real life. But while you are a utilising this forum, you will refrain from all profanity. It's quite simple - I don't want to see it. Trying to disguise swear words with asterisks (*) or any other masking of letters is a breach of the forum rules and will not be tolerated. If you are venting and want to get your point of frustration across, you are allowed to mask all letters of the word, for example: !@#$ What you may not do however is: F*#K. It's quite clear the word you are intending and it is not acceptable.

All moderators have been advised to give infraction points for any breach of these rules on first offence. Consider this the formal warning to all.

Over Abbreviating
I consider this more of a 'slip' than anything. I realise that abbreviating is common enough in game and on other sites that people either forget, or are simply not aware (new people who don't seem to take the time to read the rules) that we ask everyone to post in correct, full length English here. This falls under The Warlocks Den Posting Etiquette section of the rules, and is not only a request from myself, but in fact, asked by most users of the site.

This point was extremely highlighted for me the other day when I read a reply to a thread...
God this seems like great information too bad its full of acronyms of which I have no idea about. About a third of them I can't even search for as it brings up squat. Plus, I'm tired of searching for 10 different acronyms every for every page I read.
As most of us are not in game when posting here, there is no boat to catch, no enemy chasing you, no monster about to eat your precious Sharoon. This means you have the time to make sure your posts are able to be understood by others, and one major step to accomplishing this is to make sure you use the correct spelling of your words - this means including those underused and often forgotten vowels.

Point of interest: You can actually receive warnings and notices from the moderators if your posts is too hard to read... something to keep in mind when posting.

Post under the correct section
This is a personal annoyance of mine - and a forum rule. Unlike other sites, our forum sections are not cryptic titles from a galaxy far far away. They are plain English, to the point titles. PvP. Spells and Talents. Gear. Pets. You will not find any 'Beyond the Horizon' title here. With that said, I am amazed how many threads end up under the wrong sections... and I'm not talking about a thread asking about pvp gear being under the PvP section instead of the Gear section. I'm talking about things like:
  • A thread on Soul Leach (talent) being under the WoW General Discussion section
  • All the talent threads that somehow completely miss the 'Talent Builds - Help' section despite the three stickies and notice reminding them.
  • Profession threads under the Wrath of the Lich King section... when it had nothing to do with Wrath of the Lich King.
Threads that are clearly in the wrong section. It takes a mere second to look up and make sure you are under the correct area before writing out your post.

Note: Although technically coming with Wrath of the Lich King, the new spells and talents are being released with Patch 3.0 instead, and as such, all discussions in relation to those should be under the correct sections. The Wrath of the Lich King discussion forum should only have Wrath of the Lich King related topics under it. And yes, the section will be undergoing a clean up shortly.

Venting threads
A new change to a couple of the sections of the forums - a [Vent] thread tag has been added to The Tavern and PvP areas. This change has been brought around by member feedback after a few were feeling 'duped' into reading threads that advertised with a title separate to the contents within. One of the examples used was a thread "Solving the druid issue". With a title like that, people opened with interest. Unfortunately the thread was in fact one persons rant on how he thinks druids are over powered.

The larger point I'd like to make is that there's seems to be number of new users who appear to feel that that The Den is the wow forums; I've been detecting an increase in negative energy lately, a disturbance in the force if you will. I think people should have the right to rant, but I thought there may have been some blue post on druids and there really was an issue. In fact, it was just some guy, who clearly does need advice on how to pvp despite his later response, whining about how he lost to a druid one on one.
The Tavern has always been the place to rant, it was designed with that in mind. It's no surprise, especially given how you are dealing with other people, that PvP tends to be a bit of a 'rant' sore spot for a few people. So, to help stop problems like the above, the [Vent] tag has been added to the PvP area of the forums. Please make use of it if you need to let off steam.

I realise the above looks like a fair bit, please don't take it as anything other than a friendly reminder on what this forum is about. 95% of the users here do not need to worry about anything written above. There have been a few however that are either new, and as such have not become familiar with the higher level of maturity this forum aims for, or have been here long enough to seemingly forget.

To help ensure that the mods are not seen as forum nazi's on a power trip, we ask that you abide by the requests of this forum. Or, unfortunately, your posts will be edited, or threads closed and we'd really prefer not to have to do that. Contrary to some people's beliefs, we don't actually enjoy having to do things like that. We'd all much prefer to spend more time in game than dealing with issues.

Thankyou.
