New Den Server
Hi Akasha,
First off, congrats on the site growing to such a capacity that you need new servers. I send so many fledgling locks to this hallowed den and it's great when I find out other people I play with are closet Den'ers, so our cult must be getting quite large. Anyway! When I come for my almost hourly news fix whilst at work I'm greeted with this message. "The Warlocks Den is now on it's new server box. All name servers should have propagated by now. If you still see this message, clear your browser cache and restart your browser. If you are having any problems, please contact me at akasha@wowmb.net" But the site does then work if I click the banner at the top of the page. Obviously I'm not down with the server kiddies so this might be down to the propagation still, or it might be something to do with a redirection your end? As with any junkie, any delay on me getting my fix distresses me greatly. Please, being a kind and benevolent dealer...could you look in to this. /rocks back and forth ......MUST HAVE GOSSIP! edit:typo! |

Re: New Den Server
It's soooo wierd. There are seven (7!) people who still see the old server. I've been speaking to the "server box people" and they can't figure it out. They've told me a few more fixes which you can try...
One is: If he is using FF3, best thing to do is to reinstall it in the same folder which will rewrite the registry entries and hopefully let the browser attend to the new IPs Another one is: try running the following command in a dos window and see if that does the trick, type it exactly as it is typed below ipconfig /flushdns that should clear the dns cache on your PC Lastly is check the the ISP to see if they aren't refreshing their DNS cache forever *** Information added 1 Minutes and 7 Seconds later... *** Just want to clarify with this line... can you access the forums at all from work? Or does it just give you the error message the first time you try to visit it, but clicking the banner fixes it? |

Re: New Den Server
7 people still can't see the new site? I know this is an obvious suggestion, but have they tried clearing their browser cache?
Firefox -> Click on Tools, Clear Private Data, then click the Clear Private Data Now button. (Uncheck all but cache if you don't want to lose sessions or passwords or your history) IE7 -> Tools, Delete Browsing History, Delete Temporary Files button I bring this up only because when the move first occurred, Fire Fox wasn't showing me the new server either. IE however was. When I cleared the cache Fire Fox began showing me the correct servers *** Information added 0 Minutes and 43 Seconds later... *** Hehe, you posted that while I was typing mine up. Doh! |

Re: New Den Server
If you have a look at the message quoted, it tells people to clear their cache there too.
This is the second person to contact me about it (I can just see 7 when I view the old server), and both have done everything they can... so it's not that simple for these people I'm afraid >< |

Re: New Den Server
I can confirm that the following resolves the problem:
Start -> Run -> type "cmd" enter -> type "ipconfig /flushdns" then enter again. Makes sure browser is closed I guess to make sure. Anyway you can amend the old server message so the other seven can join us? |

Re: New Den Server
Its strange but, once in a while, i still get the "new server message". And i don't mean once every hour. I mean once every day or so. And yes i cleaned the cache of both browsers, the first time i saw that message. Count me as number 8

Re: New Den Server
If that doesn't work, you can try:
ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns You should have your browser shutdown when you do this. It can cache also... Sometimes, especially in corporate networks, they make changes and they don't tell anyone. The registerdns switch will refresh your DHCP Lease. which among other things, tells your computer what DNS Server(s) to use. There are a few other things you can do, but this should fix 99% of the problems if it is an issue with your PC and not your DNS server. Last edited by Argusi; October 31, 2008 at 07:02 AM..
