Away to keep our boards Clean!
Ok guys I have an idea what may work it could turn out to be a little bit extra work for us and Akasha but there is a way to keep the Real warlocks in and the rest of the WannaBe locks out of our Wonderful side of the Forums.
Years ago while I was Playing everquest I played a Rog now at the time I was looking for a website much like this low and behold there was one its name is The Safehouse This was an amazing Rog site! The thing that kept it above and beyond any website for rogs out there at the time was the fact like our little website it was all about rogs for rogs by rogs. But layered on top of all the Uber Rogueyness was a basic Dps site. The same site that is there today there was some rog talk up there but nothing like what went on when you either Lock picked the back door or got approved to post by the multitude of Mods. Both in EQ and on the Boards. I was one of them, the in game mods would have to check and see if the people applying to the site were actually Rogs in the game that cut back on the Riffraff on the site honestly I think that it was a little Childish and not needed but it worked. The website really flourished with a strong base of Rogs in the basement laughing at all the others who never knew where we were. And also of everyone else using the "main"(he he) Boards on top Its been a /cough couple years since I have went to the safe house so if its not the same anymore its not my fault that’s the way it was when I was a mod there. Re: Away to keep our boards Clean!
It didn't say anything about deciding between the good and bad locks. But more of confirming who has one and allowing only them access to a warlock portion of the boards and opening the site as a whole to anyone at all to be on the main boards.
It seems kind of silly though with how easy it is to have high level alts to be picky about who gets access. Think of it basically as having this site, these boards, and putting another one on top of them that covers say, all DPS. This gets a larger crowd overall w/o having to change much about what we have right now. I dunno on it, it's different but it seems like a lot more work as well. And "rog" was the 3 letter short for rogues in EQ. |

Re: Away to keep our boards Clean!
The best WoW Rogue site I've found is Roguespot and they've got a similar arrangement. There's a hidden forum in Roguespot called "Cloak and Dagger". In order to be able to access and post there, users must fill out their profile with a link to the armory of their character, a rogue above level 40 and apply for admission. Moderators check the link. However, this has created a couple of problems:
1) Roguespot is not as active as Warlock's Den. So the public forums move slowly, and Cloak and Dagger, with its even smaller membership, moves slower still. It takes days for up-to-date information to be posted, and weeks for a decent discussion to evolve. 2) Cloak and Dagger is only for discussion of endgame stuff. The public forums have some good information for leveling rogues but a lot of the endgame rogues who could be adding more are only reading the private forum. Separating "good" from "bad" warlocks begs the question, "good" for what? Writing clearly? Winning PvP matches? Killing raid bosses? |

Re: Away to keep our boards Clean!
The origanal post was not to keep Warlocks out but the rest of the Classes.
A lot of people are having a hard time even considering adding more to the site and I for one really like the idea of letting more classes in. This was just one example of how a Rogue Website Back in the day did it. I did actualy go back to the safehouse today to check it out and found that when they updated servers i guess i was booted from " the Ring". I guess that was what the name was for it. Cant really blame them its been over 3 years since i even ventured to that website. Basicaly this was just an idea thrown out there I dont technicaly agree with it, it seemed kinda Elietest back in the day and still does kinda ring true now. Also what Warpy said held true back then the information while top shelf for Rogues in the Ring was very slow since it had well lets go with less members in it then a open board would. I honestly have never been to Roguespot and did not know that they had a cloak and dagger section of their boards. Im guessing that the Forum Adimin from Roguespot was a Member of The Ring in the Safehouse to implement something like that. By the Way For those of you that are not familar with the Rogue class in EQ it was similar to the Rogues playstyle here in WoW but they were hated much more by all races and other classes all there trainers were hidden and things like that much like the Warlock trainers of WoW. Does anyone else have any ideas to keep our Warlock boards un muddied but allow more classes into are great forum? |

Re: Away to keep our boards Clean!
Right back when I created the site, I knew I wanted to make it 'open for all' and to this day it remains true. It's why I've never forced people to register to read anything, all information is accessible to guests just as it is for those that choose to register.
If I was to create an all DPS site, given the feedback so far, I would create a completely separate site to this one. Interseting idea however. If I did create a DPS site, I would link user base/membership so that Warlocks who did register here could use there, and visa versa. |
