Akasha's big announcement...
For those who follow me on Twitter will know I’ve been teasing you a bit with a ‘big announcement’ coming. I had originally planned to do this last weekend, however time got away from me and it didn’t happen. This is going to impact everyone, so please, take the time to read it. ********** I began the adventure that is The Warlocks Den back in January of 2004. That’s five and a half years ago now. It’s been a very interesting and enjoyable adventure which has taught me many different things. I’m very happy I created the site, stuck with it through frustrating and sometimes downright horrible times, there is nothing I regret. But… all good things do need to come to an end. Over the past 6 months, possibly more, my WoW playing has slowly decreased. As of a couple of months ago, I have only been logging in once a fortnight to fill my spot in one of the guilds raids. If I had not have had the pleasure of their company each second Friday, I wouldn’t be playing at all. However, the past few weeks, even that has felt like a chore. WoW just does not interest me anymore. I have taken many breaks from WoW in the past, ranging anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. They usually coincided with something happening in game – nine times out of ten, a guild bust up. However nothing has happened this time, it’s just simply been 5 years of playing and the game not interesting me anymore. This issue however, is going to have a ripple effect, and it’s rippling right into The Den. For the longest time I’ve not been able to provide any assistance or discussion on current topics. I haven’t followed WoW closely for near on 2 years now. I’ve lost touch with it, simply choosing to play for fun only. Because of that, my contributions to The Den have dwindled. My ability to keep information up to date has become harder as I’ve had to research for myself in order to be able to provide that information for you. Knowing if people are posting correct or incorrect information is non existent anymore as I simply do not know what is or isn’t correct. As the admin of the site, that is not right. So today, I take a very big step and officially announce my resignation from WoW, and, from The Den. I will still be here to fix account issues and address problems as need be, however I will no longer be playing an active roll on the site. I am hoping to find someone suitable to pass the site on to, as the last thing I want to see is it die a slow death. I’ve spent nearly every single day of the past 5+ years working on the site to improve it. Most of that work alone. I’ve got blood, sweat and tears sitting here within The Den. I simply can not just walk away completely and let it die. You, the members and visitors, also deserve better, you deserve more. This is another contributing factor of my decision to look for someone else to take over. I can’t give you guys what you need, I can’t keep the site up to date. But The Warlocks Den is home to many of you, and you deserve to have the housekeeping kept up properly. I will not lie, the thought of passing it over scares the crap out of me. This is my baby, my hard work. However, I’ve had five years of enjoyable times, and, not so enjoyable times. I need to move on. I have other projects I am working on which bring as much enthusiasm as when I was first working on The Den. I’ve always loved to write, and used to write here all the time. I even had a WoW blog which I updated constantly. That side is still very much there, however it’s in relation to other adventures. And it’s those adventures I wish to concentrate on. The Den is not going anywhere! I have put aside money to keep the hosting paid up for some time now. The Ad revenue is going to help keep that topped up, as will any purchases of the Dailies/PvP guides, subscriptions or JINX T-Shirts. The site is 100% safe and will not be shut down. Even if I can’t find someone to take over, the site will always be here so long as there are people using it. And I will still be here. I’ll still fix any account issues, respond to any other dramas and still be here to talk to. I’m always on Twitter and am more than happy to chat to any of you (or via email of course). The only real main difference is I am not longer reading any of the threads, or putting time aside to update the site. IF I feel the desire to do something, I may, however at this time, all my free time is going to be spent doing other things. I’ve not had the ability to just play games at night. I remember (prior to having Savannah) of playing WoW for 3, 4 or even 5 hours straight a night. I remember playing aaaalll weekend. Obviously I can’t do that now, but I can still get in a few hours at night time. Which is mostly what I have been doing (Sims, not WoW). However the guilt that I am not working on The Den is constantly there. And I need it not to be. We have some moderators on board which help. And I am considering adding more to not only help spread the work around, but to cover my loss of moderation as well. We have news posters helping to keep you all up to date, and of course I’m always open to more people helping out. And hopefully others might help keep the information up to date by posting guides and informative threads. This site is your home, and always will be. I just won’t be as strong a presence any more… I do want to thank all the wonderful people who made this journey so enjoyable. For my first ever website, we’ve done very, very well! I’ve come to call some of you friends, and that will never change. I always have, and always are up for chats any time. Especially on twitter as I have it running pretty much all the time. Thankyou for the journey… Regards, Akasha

Re: Akasha's big announcement...
I would like to be the first to wish you well and thank you for all your hard work, without pillars of the online community like yourself, blizzard wouldnt have enjoyed half its success, and we, the players, wouldnt have enjoyed the experience half as much. You deserve a well earned break and I wish you all the best with Savannah, I still look forward to seeing you about on the site and I can only hope that you find someone with as much dedication to the warlock community that you have shown to us these many years. |

Re: Akasha's big announcement...
Akasha i havent been here for a long time, 7-8 months this far. The Den is my FF homepage, cant ever open FF without checking the den's forums Its nice to see you having set your priorities in your life, obviously the Den is not one of them. Real life always comes on top of wow, for every single one of us. from the den i learned everything i know about locks, aside from experience, and still learning. i believe there are lots of people like me, so the den should keep running!!!I'm not the person who should have admin rights on the den's server, but through some serious filtering and selection you'll figure it out! I'm glad i've been here at the den, other classes would wish they had a place like this one! So, take care of your life, your daughter, and whatever else is really important to you. Warlock's spirit will overcome your absence, always with good meaning through life or death, Eschatos

Re: Akasha's big announcement...
Well.... wow, I can't say I saw that one coming! But speaking as a new father myself with a four month old, I TOTALLY understand how games just don't have quite the same draw as they used to. Changing priorities and whatnot ![]() Goodness knows that you have put some serious blood sweat and tears into this site, and into this community, and I think I can safely speak for all of us when I say it has been very very much appreciated! Speaking as someone who has frequented this site for years now, I know that there is a very loyal following of people here that will certainly help this transition as much as we can. If there's anything I can do to help out, just send me a PM. I'm glad to hear you won't disappear altogether, as this place wouldn't feel the same without you. I can't imagine this was anything but difficult for you to decide to do, so I have all the more respect for your putting so much thought and heart into what you feel is best for this community. /salute Last edited by tclkage; July 11, 2009 at 11:05 PM.. |

Re: Akasha's big announcement...
Well, I have only recently come to find the Den, and hope for it to be around for a long time to come, but each of us has a things to attend to, and I wish you the best of luck. As for finding someone to take over, I am sure you can find someone amongst us all with the experience. |

Re: Akasha's big announcement...
Well, I am going to say Good luck with your other adventures but still think it sucks that your gonna leave us. You made my heart hurt. Naw, don't take that the wrong way it should bring a smile to your face how much this site has affected alot of us here. I know I wouldn't be half the lock I am today without this site. Thank you again for taking the time to make it happen and to make sure it stayed on track. Stay in touch with us cause we aren't going any where. |
