Double hyphens problem
I'd like to request that whatever feature is on this forum that causes double-hyphens in posts to mess up their formatting (it makes it look like part of the post is duplicated) is removed or fixed. I use the double hyphens (dash-dash) a lot, and I am always having to go back and edit my post to take them out realizing that my post formatting is messed up. I have also seen others use the same thing and their posts are messy formatting because of it as well. I'll try to make a follow up post to this duplicating the problem after this one to show the issue. EDIT: Apparantly there is also a feature that when you make two posts in a row, it forces a merge of the posts together too. So I am having to edit this post to show the problem rather than make a separate one. Thanks, Dyson This is before the double hyphen and it is supposed to appear once -- This is a second sentence after the double hyphen and is supposed to appear after it once This is a 3rd sentence that should only appear once. The first issue (double hyphen's) is an issue we're aware of. Until a fix is found, we'll have to go back and remove the double hyphen. I've written in a few member posts on what is happening and how to fix it on a post by post basis but, unfortunately, I can't really say how long it will take to resolve that issue across the forum. The second issue you've mentioned (merging posts) is a feature that was introduced into the Den quite a while ago. It prevents duplicate posts by merging them together. Don't feel that you need to put everything in it's own separate post, a single post that is clearly written (as you have) is enough.

This sounds like an SQL escaping deal. The double-hyphen is used by SQL for comments. |

Yes, but it seems to be an HTML issue. Take a look at the source code of this page. You'll see that there is a commented version of each post beneath the original version of each post. This is HTML comments which typically involve a greater than sign with two hyphens after it <!- - (minus the spaces) - -> It seems to me that the page is interpreting the double hyphen as being the end of the commented section. This explains why the duplicates we see only begin after the double hyphens and are not duplicates of the entire post. The webpage places the original post down, then begins a duplicated post that is commented out. Only this time it encounters double hyphens and takes it to be the end of the commented section, and so it displays the remainder of the duplicated post including the closing comment tag - -> which you'll see at the bottom of any post with these duplicated entries. -- Duplicated Text
