Den Appreciation

I've recently read a few threads complaining about the Den, but since that thread is locked, just wanted to air another view.

This value of the Den comes entirely from the efforts of people with a love for the game and the class who take their own time to help others (and I would hazard a guess that around 75% of threads are of the 'help me' variety).

During the time that I've been visiting the Den (about the last 2 years?), some great contributors have retired from WoW, but many more have stepped up. I know I always find something interesting in posts from lilsteele, Kiralyn, Cormanthor and dethkirk just to name a few (and that's by no means an exhaustive list).

In terms of usefulness and general class knowledge, the Den ranks right up there with sites like Tankspot & EJ. In terms of community and a willingness to help out others, it's pretty unique.

So just wanted to say thanks to the Den & it's members and keep it up!

I would have to agree totally. The den has been a valuable source of information over the years and continues to be one today.

re: Den Appreciation

I, for one, think the Den is my greatest advantage as a Warlock. It's almost unfair how good we have it. And I think that this place is one of the reasons that Blizzard can't get us down, regardless of the nerfs caused by trolls on the official forums.

And to those like Fizboz mentioned, I greatly appreciate your contributions to the Den. They help this place grow in more ways than subscriptions. Those that contribute good data, research, news, or just great discussions really make this place the great site that it is.

WE ARE THE WARLOCK'S DEN!

Re: Den Appriciation

Absolutely agreed. Spending a little time each day just casually reading through the most recent posts has made me one of the most well-informed warlocks I know. Completely by accident. I am continually amazed at the number of questions I am able to field about the class, all thanks to this site. Plus, with fiz and others patrolling the news and blues, I have yet to see a new development in the game that I wasn't aware of well in advance. We've got the greatest one-stop 'Lock-shop on the net.

One small thing, though: In an effort to reduce the ambient, unintended humor in the world, could we edit the thread name to spell Appreciation correctly?

Not a problem!

====

On a side note, since I'm already posting here anyways, Fizboz has an excellent point in that the "value of the Den comes entirely from the efforts of people with a love for the game and the class who take their own time to help others." Just as a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, the Den is only strong so long as it's members are posting valuable, helpful, and well written information. You guys make the content and therefor the information and quality of information that shows up here is completely in your hands.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the fix! I spell without a spellchecker like I navigate without a GPS... poorly.

Totally.

Sometimes one gets the feeling that a forum full of help threads is annoying/exhausting. However, I think it does a great job in keeping information up to date.
Lets be honest... writing a guide is a lot of work, and keeping it up to date is a pain. There will always be stickies providing outdated information, wrong guides, etc.
But help posts are different. Topics keep coming up there constantly, and make people rethink certain issues quite often, sometimes coming up with new aspects and viewpoints. Also, if some outdated information slips in there, it usually gets corrected very fast, so not only the thread opener benefits, but also those users who missed a certain development.
Without all those "noobs" asking about their gems for the 100th time, there would be much less communication among the more regular den members.

I admit, sometimes I'm unhappy with the den, annoyed by discussions etc. But then I notice how much I did benefit in the past and how much I still benefit from engaging in discussions. And I notice how good it is when I try to gear/spec my DK tank just using the EJ forums.

Re: Den Appreciation

Fizboz,

I am glad you posted this thread as the sentiments of a negative minority should not overshadow those of who still appreciate being part of the community. Since I've taken over and started playing a warlock, I have turned again and again to the site both past and present and it has most certainly made me a better lock.

Those who we help today will become the masters of the game eventually and the help threads are evidence that new locks are coming every day to the Den. I don't look at this as a negative but rather that these folks will become the future contributing members. I, myself, look forward to progressing and eventually passing on the knowledge.

Thanks to all of your continued support.

I believe fizboz was the original poster, but the general sentiment should remain.
