3.2 New to Warlock, New to Game

So I just downloaded the game and have up to The Burning Crusade (Going to buy Wrath of the Lich King when I hit 60)

I've read quite a bit about the game and the class and feel I know enough to get started and the only thing I'm missing now is a good UI that will have everything I need from 1-80, Through grouping/raiding/pvping (On a pvp server).

So I figured I'd ask all the warlocks here what they use and what other addons might be helpful.

I'm looking for a Complete UI, and I'd like it to be fairly minimalistic.

I saw this UI and liked it quite a bit.

Hi there,

That ui shows a lot of stuff you dont need until your in the endgame raiding scene. (threat / dps metering is useless while leveling)

What i suggest is getting some addons like Questhelper, Gatherer, Equip compare to help your run your quests and just play with the otherwise default gui.

But hey ... if you want to go all out with gui's things knock yourself out.

Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

The main reason I want to go all out is I want to get used to the UI, I don't like the default much at all, and I'm coming from a game where I had a custom UI that I liked quite a bit.

So I'll end up learning a New UI so I figured learning one that I'll be using long term is better than learning something i'll eventually be changing.

But ya I'm definitely installing Questhelper

If you are new to the game and have previous experience of UI's then id suggest visiting Curse.com - WoW Addons WAR Addons Gamer Blogs Forums and putting in a bit of trial and error while you level up.

Everybody has their own needs and preferences and both of these change over time, for some people building your own ui is one of the joys of wow.

For an example I cant live without Opie but most people dont even know about it ^^

Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

The best thing to do is to make your own UI with the addons you find attractive. I've found downloading complete packages to often be more trouble than they're worth if you can't get them working right away.

You need:

Recount (dps/damage/heal meter)
Omen (threat meter)

That's it.

You probably want:

Bagnon (puts all your bags together so they open at the same time).
Bartender or Pearl (programs that let you configure custom action bars and raid frames).

I also have:

NPCScan (tells me when rare elites are close)
SexyMap (mini-map mod)
Questhelper (you know that one)
Cartographer (much better maps including dungeon and raid maps)
Auctioneer (Auction house addon that lets you see average prices, price histories, lets you post multiple items at once, etc. Has built in Enchantrix and Beancounter that can show you what items will vendor for, what they will disenchant into, etc.)

3.2 Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

For me, I like my UI to be something that is very clean, well designed, and fits in with the game. I don't like a mess on my screen, nor do I like having only a small window of actual viewing space to see what's going on. That said, I use SpartanUI I have made a few modifications. For example, I use Carbonite in place of Quest Helper and Cartographer, which doesn't exactly work in the circular space provided by the UI. So I moved it just above the right text box. On the left is where I have Recount/Omen displayed. They overlap one another (Omen shows up during combat, Recount then appears upon leaving combat).

In the big circular (now empty) space in the middle where the map used to be, I used ButtonTimers and have configured it to show the timer of Immolate, Conflag, and ChaosBolt.

The rest of my screen is empty save for the very top where I use Fubar for just a few other informational items. It's a fairly clean look and I can customize it with whatever I need.

Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

I gues the part where you say you need to get used to the UI before you get to raiding is true... Its hard for me to look at the interface Pernicious showed and feel like i am playing w0w. It looks nice and clean tho ... but its not for me

I always have the big mess all about and everything from my spellbook on the bars on the right.

I use the Fubar thats filled with all sorts of fun stuff, - atlas loot, Experience Fu, Performance FU, *among others*

I also have Warlock specific's like ForteXorcist : WoWInterface Downloads : Warlock
and for my button timing i have Inline aura and Quartz

But this will clutter your view space. altho everywhere i look i get information i need.

Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

Aye, personally I found questhelper very heavy and resource hungry. I now use Carbonite and have been quite pleased with the results. As a 'lock your going to want to get something that tracks your dot's. It isn't needed so much while leveling, but I find it takes me some time to get used to watching new addons, so it may be a good practice while leveling. DoTimer is a good one, as well as ForteXorcist which has some very nice 'lock gadgets.

As far as the addons in that image (Starting on the bottom left):
For the chatlog it looks like he is using Prat
The next one is Omen (shows your threat on a target as well as that of other people in your party/raid)
Next is a bar mod, they all can look very similar, I personally use Bartender
Next is Grid. As was mentioned, it isn't extremely necessary at this point, but if you are setting up a UI, you need to make room for it so you don't have to move things around when you start raiding.
Last on the bottom right is Recount which shows a host of information. His is set to Damage Done, but it can also show DPS, Healing Done, HPS, and a lot of other utility information.
For his health bars it looks like his is using Pitbull. Very nice customizable addon.
The boxes around each of the elements at the bottom will be another seperate addon that he has setup to frame each piece. Not sure what that might be.

Re: New to Warlock, New to Game

I'll toss dot timers out there too to help you conserve mana while leveling. I found omen quite useful when fighting single elite mobs to make sure you don't steal aggro from void tank. For leveling your professions I have recently discovered the amazing sparky's add on for crafting. I forgot the whole name for it but if you type in sparky in curseclient it should pop up. (lilsprarky something)

As for whole UI's developed by Den users, check out CormanthorUI and Supernex UI

I know mine is missing some key addons that I use, like QuestHelper. Unfortunately, there is an upload size limit!
