Help with Affliction DPS and Rotation - Post 3.1
This thread is for discussion on DPS and Cast Rotations for Affliction heavy builds. For Warlocks that are Affliction to discuss how to improve their DPS, optimal cast rotations and general discussion about their playstyle. Please try to fill this thread up with information and discussion. Let's not make it one huge 'help' thread. Let's give a reason to come here instead of EJ... For general DPS and Rotation discussion please use the I need help with my DPS - Thread #2 (Post Patch 3.1) thread. Thankyou. 51/0/13 spec low dps??
The World of Warcraft Armory theres is a link to my gear i am usein haunt-cor-Curse of Agony-UA-spam SB and keepin them all up. i am testin my dps on the heroic dummy in IF and my dps is only like 1800 .I talked to a few diff locks and they all say there getin over 3k in there but i dont know what i am doing wrong. I could i am sure i need to switch my gems out to get more hit and haste but i jsut didnt know if that would help that much and would like some tips be for i waste gold on buying all new gems. |

Im sure you could be pulling more dps than 1800. Your gear seems pretty good, and your stats are a bit around mine. You should probably search the forums a bit for affliction threads which could help you alot in terms of rotations/geming/stat values/etc. Ill just try to give you a quick rundown. You should open up with Sb>Haunt>Ua>Corr>Agony>Sb spam You start with an sb because you want two stacks of Shadow Embrace up before your dots start ticking. At <25% boss health, replace your shadow bolt spamming with Drain Soul As far as glyphs go, your best bet would be Lifetap, Haunt, and Curse of Agony. At the moment Im rolling with Curse of Agony, Corruption, and SiLi because the sribe's on our server are slow  Anywho, there's much more information to be had on this website; the Search function will help alot. I am using that spec right now and doing about 2300 dps. my 3/53/15 spec is doing about 3600. Now idunno if im doin something wrong with my rotation, but it seems Blizz has F'd affliction bad. I tried yesterday hc doll and received 3200dps. Fel armor and spellstone were only buffs and was using coe as normally when I raid, no pet (pet didn't matter on that test as I was testing couple of my trinkets). The rotation isn't anymore straight forward like before. After you refresh Haunt for the first time, you can cast sb after it before refreshing UA. I'm not using any dot timer atm so have to keep an eye on Ua all the time to be able to refresh it whenever needed. At least my dps has remained about the same as before the patch. |

ya i changes my rot a lil bit to SB/haunt/cor/coe/UA/SB i had suc out and was getin over 3k also that talent that gives you 20% faster cast times proced like 3 times so that help out alot. I just changed up a few things tog to more haste and and less crit i am goin to see how this plays out today. |

SB>HAUNT>UA>Corr>Curse of Agony>SB spam. don't clip your dots, that could be a problem. your refresh priority should be: Haunt Dots SB remember that SBs are your fillers... always always refresh your dots before putting in another SB, and ALWAYS ALWAYS refresh haunt before ANYTHING.

A few quickish questions from a n00b.
First off my build so far is this: The World of Warcraft Armory Right now after about 10 min on the target dummy in IF my dps is around 800 (797-804 according to recount) My first question as a level 65 Aff Lock what should I be aiming for? I know that I'm still clipping UA every now and then (it's hot-keyed right next to my haunt) My DPS for the dummy was CoE>SB>Haunt>Corr>UA When there wasn't enough time to fit in a shadow bolt I'd fill with drain life if even for only a tick and then proceed to sb spam where I could in the rotation. Is this a bad habit I should try to break now? I know I should be using Curse of Agony but I'm still very new to this all so I figured 1 step at a time. Three levels ago I was happy to be doing 300 dps. My dps during my solo questing and last night's Onyxia run is much closer to 550 (but I did miss 10% of the time on Onyxia so I def need more hit), so what advice can you give for movement and casting? This seems to be a rather large drop off. Is this normal during so questing? My gear is 90% quest rewards/self made The World of Warcraft Armory If there are any good upgrades here then I'd be thrilled for that info too. Bear in mind the my guild right now only has a handfull of 80's, and then it seems like 4 or so from 60-70 so raiding and instancing can be tough. I have the glyph of Life Tap and Siphon Life. I also use the spellstone and fel armor with the felpuppy out. I've also read that I should be using the succy but I like being able to put corrupion and CoE on a mage mob and set the puppy on it and let him kill that while I kill another mob or two or three. Should I be looking for more hit already even though I'm only 65? I'm fine while leveling but when I get into instances and raids I do hurt a little bit. I'm still amongst the top in my level area though so I haven't changed as of yet. Should I be using CoE on shorter lived mobs rather than Curse of Agony? While questing a mob 1v1 lasts around ten seconds so I figured it was a bit of a waste. Thank you in advance for reading this and I'm very grateful for any help or guidance that can be offered. |

Affliction dps help
Ok well i just went affliction today and i went to test my dps out on target dummies and it was 2.8k and I think i can go higher. My rotation is SB, Haunt, Corr, UA, Curse of Agony, SBs then reapply Haunt, UA, Curse of Agony when needed My glyphs are Life tap and Cure of Agony (Trying to get the Haunt glyph) As for my pet i use Succubus and i use a spellstone I'm not to sure what im doing wrong.
