Help with Destruction DPS and Rotation - Post 3.1

This thread is for discussion on DPS and Cast Rotations for Destruction heavy builds. For Warlocks that are Destruction to discuss how to improve their DPS, optimal cast rotations and general discussion about their playstyle.

Please try to fill this thread up with information and discussion. Let's not make it one huge 'help' thread. Let's give a reason to come here instead of EJ...

For general DPS and Rotation discussion please use the I need help with my DPS - Thread #2 (Post Patch 3.1) thread. Thankyou.

How you do your rotation using life tap but doing a high dps? When you use life tap and when you continues to nuke shadow bolt?

Re: @Destruction Rotation

Curse > SB Spam > Mana Pot > SB Spam > Loot.

Or, without a shadowpriest Curse SB Spam until I reach the point where I know a life tap will return me to just under full mana then Lifetap > SB Spam.

I use mana pots where available depending on the encounter but I normally have a shadow priest so its not exactly difficult to maintain a decent uptime. Just experiment and find what works...

Re: @Destruction Rotation

yea its just put up your curse spam SB life tap about every 7 for me or if i am about to get a herosim i life tap twice to full so i can go full out though the whole thing.

now if you have an SP you will still have to life tap but not nearly as much but i still recomend life tapping to full before you use a trinket or get a heroism. as for mana pots i very rarely use them only ususally if we double pull on trash packs during boss fights becuase i only have 1 use trinket the other is passive i am usually taking destro pots esp for SWP

Re: @Destruction Rotation

Even with my Shadow Priest hitting 1600dps on fights like Brutallus I can only ever use one Destruction pot - the rest are Super Mana pots simply because I like to avoid lifetapping where possible. I should say that I probably tap 3 or 4 times over the whole fight which means I can SB spam for longer.

For less critical fights I just lifetap every 30 seconds or so and its immediately healed with VE - Win

Re: @Destruction Rotation

If you still have mana at the end of the fight, you've lost out on DPS. Lifetap only when necessary (eg. oom) except in preparation for a trinket use or Bloodlust/Heroism, where you want to make sure you have enough mana to SB the full duration.

For Bloodlust, thats practically the whole mana bar assuming sub-2sec SBs for 45 seconds @400-420 mana, depending on how many points in cataclysm. That's about 9000 mana, so be prepared with at least that much if you have no SP.

3.1 Re: DPS Help

Are you interested in a deep destro build, or are you just interested in any build that will up your DPS for raiding?

If the latter, it sounds like for initial good raiding spec advice you want Fallenman's sticky post on raiding builds

Fallenman's 3.1 Quick Raid Spec Rundown! - The Warlocks Den Forums

Also, EJ is a good place to read some latest discussion also. 0/40/31 was considered a top DPS build until a couple days ago when conflag was nerfed 70% of its previous damage but still, it's within 5% or so of the top DPS talent simulation in the new simcraft.

If your question is about being a destro-lock and wanting to know a good build for that. There is also a deep destro build discussed in the EJ threads too which I am not sure is discussed in Fallenman's thread.

Links to those appear below:

Simulationcraft on post-3.1 specs - Elitist Jerks
PVE Raiding Compendium V3.1 - Elitist Jerks

Your mileage will also vary potentially based on your gear. For example the current raiding affliction build has 3% +hit built into it.

The demo/destro hybrid builds do not and therefore you may lose out if your +hit is on the low side even though simcraft wise they look 'good'.

Note that the deep destro build from the EJ thread(s) has 3 points in the +hit talent in the affliction tree (3/13/55). I've provided a link in the parens.

Looking at your armory, your +hit is OK if you are in a raid with a toon that can provide extra hit like spriest or boomkin, but it might be a little on the low side otherwise. Also, your deep destro build has a few inefficiencies that will be fixed if you use the 3/13/55 build for example, you want 3 points in backlash for 3% extra crit and in exchange 2/2 health funnel is not buying you much DPS at the moment.
