I just want to make sure I am going the right way about this. I've hit level 12 and now have the VW and some spells. I'm sending him out first and waiting for him to hit and casting CoW, Corruption, followed by a Bolt, possible Immolate and then Drain Life. I'm not sure where to work in Curse of Agony |

Re: Early Lock Rotation
Pull with immolate, then cast Curse of Agony and Corruption. Those three should kill whatever you are after. If mana is low, life tap, Curse of Agony, Corr, drain life. |

Remember that you can only have one curse up at a time. So it'll either be CoW, or Curse of Agony. I suggest putting Agony further up your list as it is the type of spell that starts off with a small amount of damage and slowly builds up to a large amount by the time it ends. Perhaps something like: Send in VW, Corruption, Agony, Shadowbolt, Shadowbolt. Or Send in VW and CoW while your VW travels, then Corruption, Immolate, Shadowbolt. In the case that it takes a while for you to kill a mob, or if you aggro multiple mobs, you could do a full round of Dots: Corruption, Curse of Agony, Immolate, then spam your Shadowbolts. Unless you're taking damage, I would not use Drain Life until after you hit Life Tap and that would only be when you're low on mana.

you will probably have the voidwalker through most of your leveling. he's a beast! the main point is he's a TANK. and use his as such. are you using any sort of threat meter? i use IceHUD to keep an eye on how much threat i am pulling compared to the VW. i do stick with the rotation Pernicious suggested. very effective. Good Luck!!

The first time I leveled, I did it mainly solo as I was still making friends in the game. So I tended to use each of the pets until I got a new one because I thought they were all upgrades and that each one was better than the last. So I used the imp till level 10, the VW till level 20, The Succy til 30, and had the Felhound well into the 50s when I finally read some stuff about the pets and realized that they're situational and not just upgrades. My second Warlock I leveled with a real life friend (a pally) and so I juggled my pets based upon what roll he wanted to play. I used my VW to tank when he wanted to heal, and any of the others when he wanted to tank. The Pally/Warlock combo makes for one of the finest/fastest leveling pairs that I've ever seen. Still, I think that the VW makes for the best pet to have out when leveling and learning the class. Once you start to get a pretty good idea of how the class works, what the talents do for you, and what the pets are for, then I'd begin to switch it up. But for leveling, the VW offers a great aggro puller and a shield that you can use should something go wrong and you need to flee. Tip: The VW tends to only use Torment when facing single target mobs. If you pull aggro off your VW and his Torment is on cooldown, manually hit Suffering to trigger his AoE taunt. It can sometimes be enough to pull the mob back off of you until your VW can Torment again. When you face off against multiple mobs, your VW should automatically hit Suffering. Atleast this is the behavior I've often seen my VW have.

When I started, I leveled off the VW as well. I used it like a hunter uses their pet, as a tank, with the mob beating on the tank. Which means you may want to install Omen threat meter so that you can better judge your aggro. That usually means using a lot of Curse of Agony and Corruption and just wanding the mob to death. However, once you get enough talent points to spec into Siphon Life, you may want to switch over to Affliction style leveling, where you put Corruption on the mob, and then fear-juggle it while DoT'ing it up and pulling another. In which case you'll use the imp or succubus as your pet of choice (I prefer the succubus due to her debuff and better damage). Affliction leveling has a lot less downtime then Demo/Destro, and pretty much zero downtime once you get Haunt. At which point you can pull 3-5 mobs at a time, DoT them all up, then send them running while you get more. |

Re: Early Lock Rotation
tee hee, just to play devils advocate: Send VW, cast Curse of Agony, Corr, Imm then target new mob and repeat, let the dots take the last one down while you're dotting the next one. Hopefully the mob will stay on the VW. *disclaimer - its a long time since I was level 12, this should work though i think.....

Don't use shadowbolt after level 13, just buy/make a greater magic wand, it will do more damage for the next 7 levels or so. It is one of the best early weapons in the game. For 13-20 I just did cor, Curse of Agony, wand to death. The lack of mana cost really makes a difference in your grind per hour. As to the pet, unless you are going full afflict(and probably still if you are less than level 30 but it depends on skills) VW is your pet of choice. With the fear nerf afflict levelling has been greatly weakened but is still effective, I prefer the felhunter as my pet of choice, but if you are taking on a lot of humanoids, the succubus is great. however as the name of the post is "early lock rotation" VW pet, Cor, Curse of Agony, wand to death, use immolate only if you are way out classed and then use it to pull...I.E. Immo, Cor, Curse of Agony, wand to death. as a low level lock you will soon be a mid level lock. Warlocks level fast as long as they remember to let the minion tank... Re: Early Lock Rotation
Seconded. Player made wands are godly at lower levels. Worth every copper. |
