I'm not going to start a discussion, but the quoted is far from being true. The destro/suppression build is viable right off the bat. There is no such thing as a spec for low quality gear and a spec for high quality gear. If you enjoy playing with a FG, go ahead, but don't post incorrect claims about it being a 'better' spec for his gear. In BC, having a bare minimum of certain stats was necessary to perform well. Therefore going destro was ill advised until a certain SP and Crit level. This is not the case anymore.

Now, you only need your 11% hit rating. After that you can focus on spell power and haste. Feel free to completely ignore crit for the time being. Look at it as a bonus stat but don't itemize towards it. When your average item level starts increasing, you'll start bordering the 2k sp and 400 haste. This is the time you'll start looking differently at crit.

Concerning the spec discussion:

I was a bit unsure myself about this, so I decided to run simcraft with scaled down gear to get some theory estimate. I chose something around 1400 spellpower, 300 crit/haste and hit capped (I varied the numbers a bit).
The result was that a few specs came in within 100 dps of eachother, among them deep affliction, 41/30 hybrid, both deep destro specs. There is nothing such as a region where destro is inferior to other specs.
Demonology and Hybrid specs do a bit better in heroics in general, since their AoE abilities are buffed quite a bit, but once you worry about killing raid bosses there is no reason not to be destruction specced, even with bad gear.

@Dronthal

I think this has been said already a few times in this thread, but you really need to get your gear gemmed and enchanted. Even before worrying about your dps this is what most raid leaders will look at. Besides that it will also help your dps to have 200 additional spellpower from enchants.
Besides that, you will want to analyse where your problems lie. Can you execute your rotation properly on the training dummys? You should be able to do at least 2.5k dps there.
Then you should work on getting your damage out on actual fights, where you have to move or switch to dps adds or something like that. Most damage meters record more than just dps numbers, usually you can also check your activity and dot-uptime and compare to other warlocks.
Ideally you can record a combat log and use this to analyse your performance

Good luck ;)

Re: A Warlocks Cry for help

Gear is the issue here. Run heroics for upgrades and enchant and gem what you have properly, I think for any spec the chaotic meta (with +crit and also 3% bigger crits) is the winner. Blue gems should be spirit/sp (as required for the meta). Grind hodir rep for the shoulder enchant, get a head enchant (revered kirin tor). Mostly what other people have said, spellpower on bracers. If they're not good enough or whatever then hurry up and either buy the ulduar 10 boe ones or badge ones (you can get these for gold if you ask around for someone with spare badges).

trinket wise, for a free easy one, do the chain on entry to icecrown at the argent crusade base. It finishes with a superior trinket to your blue. 4 more crit, and a proc which will boost your damage a bit. Spam ToC and ToC heroic too. If the gear is stopgap and you don't want to spend on enchants, get new gear asap. If not, enchant it.

So what everyone else said.

Good luck, you'll have a lot of work to do
I don't intend this as critisism of Benituccio because the gear in the character linked is really great but I would wonder how much time this toon took to gear-1 item I saw there is listed to have a 0.56% drop rate. How much time has Dronthal or many of the rest of us to play to get gear like that? Are there other warlocks in the same guild in line ahead of him/her for drops? Does he/she raid either with a guild or PUG raids. Is this the 1 & only toon he/she plays. A RL friend has a hunter who is geared better than my 3 level 80 toons & the guild he belongs to never raids his is all from pugging raids but its his only level 80 toon & basically the only toon he plays.

This is my lowest geared 80 character
The World of Warcraft Armory
I created him in 2006 (the second toon I ever created) & he is just over the soft hit cap as the last time I played him he got the boots he is now wearing which replaced boots without +hit. I moved him to the realm he is now on to raid with other RL friends who have not been playing lately. He has never been in Ulduar or EOE. but has the best I could get otherwise. He also hasn't been played in a month or more as I have been playing toons on another server.

My point in this post is that we all can try to reach for the sky but we also have to work with what we have & each improvement even just regemming/enchanting the gear Dronthal has will make a difference.
