Ive been haveing real dps problems lately. I know lag isnt all of my problems but wondering if i fix it would it help my dps? What framerate and latency is exceptable? I was also wondering if you had any tips to help my raid dps cause of lag. I have so many addons and wanted to know if i should disable everything except my raid addons. Also what settings can i turn down or off to help? thank you for any help

Re: is lag hurting my dps
I've been wondering the same thing. In my guild raids my fps is around 20, quite stable, but put me in a 25man raid and i can go as low as 4 fps. I have put this down to my graphics card however, so i've ordered a new one. My dps isn't bad, but i feel it could be even more considering a boomkin with similar gear is pushing up to 500 more dps than me and up to 1% more damage output, which is strange, and he agrees. Framerate and lag are definitely going to affect your dps. Your computer is lagging behind in the case of both, as on one hand your internet is not keeping up with current activity (slow with connecting to Blizzards servers), and your low fps is usually to do with your graphics card/computer related.] You can try disabling all your addons, but with a computer with enough memory and good spec that shouldn't really be causing you issues. I would perhaps have a look round on the Blizzard forums, there are quite a few posts about how to reduce lag and some tips about fps also. Unfortunately i'm no PC wizz so i can't say much more, but the answer is yes, lag definitely affects dps/damage output. |

Heya Warluck, Yes, lag will be reducing your damage output. It can become a big part of your output even. It is ( as i explain it correctly ) beceause you are not casting all the spells you could. A spell that would for example take 3 seconds casting, might take you 4 or 5 seconds to cast. This would allow you to do waaaay less spells overall inside a certain timeframe. You can often cut it down in numerous ways. Better internet connectivity. Faster / better computer. ( these 2 can do loads for reducing lag, speaking of experience. ) Also, disable a lot of software on the pc, like a virus scanner in the background might cause a lot of lag, and all other running programs might also put a train on the computer / internet connecion. It is not just wow + addons what can cause lag in wow. second thing you can do, is indeed cutting back on all addons, they will put a strain on your system. The more you can cut back, the better. Also, graphics and ingame options. Cut down everything you can, and a lot of those options will help. Doing this in stages will help you see wich ones cause the most lag, and wich one hardly matter at all ( if at all noticable ). These are all mostly best decided trough experimentation, beceause it will differ per computer / connection what causes the most lagg and what will make the most difference. Also, many addons you might need, and some not, this differs per person/raidgroup. Tip, go into the most laggy zones there is to experiment with the results. There the difference will be most noticable, and this way you dont have to herass the raid to wait and let you play with your lagg settings. Added : Most important resources for wow reduction in your puter : Memory CPU Graphics cart. I believe most in that order. You dont need a massive card, but you need RAM and cpu cycles. These will be a bigger bottleneck then yer graphics card. I could play wow better with the same settings / addons on my laptop with more cpu / ram but a lesser ( onboard ) videocard then my old puter. ( only setting back graphics settings would do much much more then it would on the pc tough )

I'm not sure if those are the biggest or important resources for wow reduction. I have 6g of ram, and still experiencing ~4-8 fps in 25 mans. I have a quad 2.0g processor still experiencing the above. (set wow to use all cores instead of only one) ATI Radeon 4800 series graphics card. Setting back graphics settings were a very minor improvement if none at all. So I'm not sure where my issue in lag lies but I can say that it plays a big part in DPS. |

Lag DEFINITELY affects DPS. But your problem is solveable; you should be getting great performance with those specs. I don't have the answer for you, but you can definitely do better. I am playing on a shitty old laptop, 2 gigs ram, onboard graphics, and I get 4-8FPS in 25 mans. So you should do WAY better. |

I saw a noticable increase in my DPS when I went from a 128mb video card to a 1gb video card. This improved my 3-8fps up to 60fps. Now I can run in Ultra video settings and still get great fps. How's your network (direct or wireless)? Have you done the reg-hacks to decrease your network latency (vista/win7)? (Reduce game network latency in Windows 7 or Vista Life & Code) HP Desktop 3gb RAM 2.3ghz Quad Core Intel I was so happy with my upgrade, I blogged about it: Hello, My name is Elkagorasa, and I am a Warlock.: I haz DPS! |

Re: is lag hurting my dps
Hmm, your ram and cpu are most definately well enough Parsnup. That wont be it for shure. So you should look deeper. ( my input was generalised, and i know it will vary per system ) The 4800 series should suffice, but in this case is probably the slowest link in your puter. However, for your system, i would guess the problem would more likely not be the hardware ( Assuming the vidcard is ok, depends on wich version ) For you i would look more into secondary issues. Firewalls, virus scanning and other resource munching programs. Also the Addons. It might be that some program or more programs are devouring your system recourses / network recourses or blocking them from the internet somehow ( hardware firewalls, soft firewalls etcetera ) Check those out to. Also check you updated all drivers. Sound video, chipsets / mainboard and such. ( might also cause a problem ) And maybe even update windows if needed. If that wont fix it, and you dont wanna spend money on hardware, ( and you have some time to spare ) You could go to the following procedure : ( WARNING : is a drastic timesing. BUT may very well make your WOW life much much better ) Make a clean dual boot installation. Disable everything you dont need for WOW, dont install any programs like anti virus, printers etcetera. Just a bare system with appropriate drivers. Install wow on it, no addons or whatever. If the game runs smooth the, it wont be your internetconnection or your system. Start adding addons and try em out. Still no lag ? great. Then you know if your system can really run wow + addons, and it is due to some software issue. The install the other software, like antivirus if you want, or make a good restore point and skip the protection. Then you will find out what software is causing the problems and you can deal with that.

Heres a command to increase or decrease your spell level. If you want it higher than it is. You have to turn your particle density up all the way, THEN type in this code /console SpellEffectLevel # # = your number. 9 is default, so if you want to change it back. That's how you do it. You can reduce this to remove much of the AoE graphics that is performed in a raid. It will help with FPS issues. I just don't know how much as I don't have fps issues. On a fun note, type in: /console SpellEffectLevel 5000 Then rain of fire. I suggest doing this while solo. Have fun and I hope that helps people with FPS issues. |
