meta demo personal dps, need help/advice plz :-)
Hey there, Armory- chivdoc, dreadmaul, blood elf lock. I have recently picked up the role of the resident demo lock in my guild, obviously to cover the increased sp through dp that an ele sham duznt, roughly 70 ish more, unprocced(dying curse). Now i know i am not spose to smash the charts in dps, but i feel for the gear I have I need to do more. Eg, beasts 25man heroic, ill sit around 4.5ish, and it is that extra 5-600 dps that the raid really is lacking. Though, seeing the mages, other locks and single boomkin up around the 6.5-7.5k mark is good, is that the tradeoff that has to happen? To that extent? Or can anyone out there see if there is anythng i can do to increase personal dps.up around the 5.5 k mark through gear. Lets take 1 fight into consideration as an example..... Beasts25man. Start off, pop meta at start for straight dps on boss and snobolds, so it is up for jormungar phase acidmaw burn/bloodlust at start of phase 2... Phase 3 i pot on first crash, and meta on second crash, spreading the dps increase over both, rather than stacking it on one, i also have a flame cap up on sub 35% icehowl. I guess thats just in regard to cds and meta usage. Would meta be best used at the end of phase 1 for sf spam on gormok and on dreadscale, the non bloodlusted jormungar? And used still on the 2nd crash,? Rotation atm, sb first for 5% crit, (all mages arcane), apply dots sb span, hit demo empowerment every cd. Sub 35% sb, sb sf sb sf sb etc. I guess im looking for a exp'd demo lock who has raided as demo for the whole of 3.2. Or anyone that is willing to help me out. Cheers, |

I have a demo/destro dual spec and I find your DPS gap pretty similar to mine. I am not an AMAZING Demo lock, but I am good. IMO it is MUCH more difficult to get max DPS with Demo, and on the days when I don't get it right, my DPS drops a lot. Hence Blizzard openly acknowledging that Demo is behind. It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. Demo is just far behind. And because it scales the worst of all the specs, the more everybody's gear improves, the further behind it drops. A couple of thoughts/tips though for max DPS:

Like Wavecycle said, the personal DPS is going to be lower for demo unfortunately. If you are providing 70 SP more to the raid than ele shaman, then it's probably a good point to start being demo. I would also second the advice of Wave for demo DPS. I also would not rule out that when you pop meta, do your charge at the boss and hit immolate aura on. That will also help milk a little extra DPS. You can do that most fights on ToC25 except Gormok phase of Beasts because he will silence you if you are too close. |

I have no problem with my destro dps, but my GL recently asked me to switch to Meta/Ruin for the DP buff. I was expecting a drop in DPS, but not quite this drastic. O_o My armory is here: The World of Warcraft Armory Some of this gear (the pants and the robe) just dropped for me last night, and as such I haven't had a chance to raid with it yet. The last few weeks with slightly lower stats, my DPS has been between 4.5 and 4.8k. This feels ridiculously low to me, and I'm almost always in last place. Since I don't have anyone to compare it to in my guild...how far off am I from where I should be? I use the Spellstone for myself, and my Felguard gets Spiced Mammoth Treats. Demonic Empowerment is macroed into my main spell buttons, so it's always used on every cooldown. I usually start fights with Meta and charge in with Immo Aura going (unless I know I should save it for some reason), then carry on with a regular rotation of dots/SB spam until Decimation hits. I found it helpful to use Power Auras so I know exactly when Decimation is active and I can start weaving (as well as to alert me when my Life Tap buff goes away), but I still feel like I'm missing something. |

I have just recently dual specced to demo/destro and am using demo as my main spec now albeit certain fights. As i raid 10man, sometimes you do think, for the sake of buffing only two to three other casters, is the lack of my personal dps worth it? Well i have ran this through simcraft and it does, however with fight mechanics and learning the spec, i'm still not sure. After playing a few raids with demo it is very hard to do alot of dps, correct, but i do find that if you pop meta at the right time and really utilise the spec properly, your dps doesn't have to be drastically low. I really do wish demo would be as good as destro, i really do, because i much prefer the playstyle. After playing destro for a while, and re-speccing it tonight for certain fights i couldn't wait to spec back. I am actually seeing more and more locks speccing to demo. I think destro does get boring. It has got a little boring for me. Am definitely going to go affli/demo next patch. Just a note about macros. I macro demonic empowerment to shadow bolt so it's always used when it's off cooldown. I set meta to a seperate macro onto my mouse button, and macro it to my on use trinket. If i click it twice, i charge, if i alt-click it i use immolation aura. So if the boss is melee friendly go in and use immolation aura. |

Do you stay in melee range until immo aura runs off, or do you pop immo aura and immediately portal back to ranged to continue your rotation? I also just switched this previous week to a raid beneficial deep demonology spec since our previous elemental shaman has take a break from WoW. I also stay around 4.5k dps while the other destruction locks are sitting at about 5k average. I'd really like to at least stay at 5k. With all the arcane mages and hard hitting melee in the raids doing and easy 7k, it's hard to be 3 thousand behind and think I'm not doing something wrong. Currently I'm hitting Demonic Empowerment and Metamorphosis as on CD. My rotation is normally about this: SBolt, CoD, Corruption, Sbolt (unless Molten Core procs, which is does quite often, then Immolate + Incinerate spam) and then once target is under 35%, Sbolt, Sbolt, Soul Fire, Sbolt, Soul Fire, while still renewing Corruption. Glyphs are: Felguard, Immolate, and Life Tap I'm at about 600 haste, 35% crit, and 3k SP raid buffed. I do feel like I should be doing more than 4.5k, and it must be my rotation.
