Disclaimer: I'm a relatively new 80, and I know my gear and enchants are not ideal. I'm working on improving them, but it's taking time.

I've only recently starting running heroics with PUGs, and as such have found myself at or near the bottom of the damage meters. Obviously this is something I want to change.

I have a lot more experience with affliction than destruction, and ran my first few heroics with that, but was a bit disappointed with my performance and dual-specced destruction to see how that went. I enjoyed the play-style, and my damage seemed to increase, but I was improving my gear as well, so that could have been an illusion.

Last night I decided to compare the two specs using a heroic training dummy, and was surprised to see the difference between the two. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with destruction, or if my gear's causing problems, or what.

For affliction, I use a succubus minion. I have glyphs of life tap, curse of agony and haunt. I life tap > shadowbolt > haunt > corruption > curse of agony > unstable affliction, then fill in with shadowbolt, or drain life if health is under 25%, making sure to refresh DoTs as soon as they fall off, while clipping none of them. This achieved a steady DPS of 2.4K.

For destruction, I use an imp, and have glyphs of life tap, conflagrate and incinerate. I life tap > curse of agony/doom (depending on life expectancy of target) > immolate > chaos bolt > conflagrate, then fill in with incinerate while renewing curse, immolate, conflagrate and chaos bolt in descending order of priority. This achieved a steady DPS of just 1.8K.

As far as I'm aware these are the optimum 'rotations' for both specs. All spells are at maximum rank. Does anyone have any idea why my destruction DPS is so much worse than my affliction?
