help with Faction Champions
I was in TOC 10 last night and I am having problems with the faction champions. The rogue and the warrior were giving me a lot of issues go figure. Each of them has like 400k or so HP And hits cloth for 2.5k to 5k per hit depending on crits. In this fight there is no threat table so it seems that the rogue is programed to go after locks what a surprise. I was pwned in no time when he got on me for more than 5 or 10 sec. I did figure out hat the lock portal works well here for getting away from him BTW. I tried both distro and affliction and affliction was more survivable over all because I was more mobile. Anyway I'm still having problem lasting more than 2 min's into the fight and need advice on how to deal with this encounter. I thought that maybe deep demo might be a more survivable spec I haven't tried that yet but i intend to. I tried fear as well and it seems to break kind of fast and the rogue just comes right back and pwns me anyway. I would be very grateful for any tips on how to deal with this encounter. Thanks in advance of the help. |

Re: help with Faction Champions
We just started this on 25 man last night. The big thing, according to the guild on my server that have downed it is to either chain CC the healers or Chain CC the DPS as much as possible. Clothies are going to most likely die on this encounter. It's an arena match. |

Re: help with Faction Champions
Kill a healer first. This means chain CC'ing the dps. That should make the encounter significantly easier. Also remember that CC suffers from diminishing returns on this encounter so you have to be smart about how you CC. My guild won't try this till tonight or Sunday, but I am most likley going to use the felhunter and a pvp trinket (no other pvp gear should be required). The fel hunter can devour CC on you or stop a heal from going off. Just remember that most of Rogues, mages, and priests CC do not share DR. I think Blind and sheep do, or is it sap and sheep? |

Re: help with Faction Champions
This is a classic MGT fight. What we did, was on 10 man, we controled Druid and Paladin healers and burned Shadow Priest down, due to low HP. We continued to control the paladin while burning druid down and having our DK tank Chain of Ice kite the shaman. After druid down, we proceeded toward the Paladin and then hilarity ensued when he bubbled lol. We then had it dispelled and killed the paladin. Hunters pet came next followed by hunter, at the same time we still had the DK still kiting the Shaman, because is a bad ass. Kill the hunter, then the Shaman, and death knight came last. It worked pretty well for us. |

Re: help with Faction Champions
Keeping focused DPS on a kill target and locking down all of the other targets is the key to the fight. We focused on healers first. In the 25 man we killed 2 healers, then the rogue, then the ret paladin and after that it was pretty easy as long as the last healer's heals were kept locked down. DR on the CC is a huge factor so for CC you should work in pairs that have mixed CC (e.g. lock and druid), one person lock down the target while the other burns the kill target, then when DR on the first player's CC is about to hit call for switch. By the time the 2nd player's CC hits DR the first player's will have reset. Also if you're working on locking down healers you can save interrupts and CC by only hitting them when the healer mob is casting a heal on the kill target (except if they're doing an aoe heal/dispell, you'll want to lock that down too). |

I did both 25 and 10man last night. I'd agree with most of what these posters said. Have a CC plan as with any arena encounter. Ideally for CCing the most vital classes to lock down, have a DR swap team. I made a macro to inform my mage partner when he should start CCing and vice versa. Had warlock spawn in both 10 and 25 man. The pet ideally should start off banished because it will run around dispelling other CCs too. Actually we had to down 25man twice because the encounter bugged and blizzard sent a GM to us to tell us basically to leave the instance for a 30 minute soft reset and redo it. It is a fun fight! But with so many CC capabilities (we can banish pets, the druid tree, fear, aoe fear)etc... I'm doing less DPS, but it's kind of a fun fight in that way having to watch for all the CCs you can possibly help with. |

These are all very good suggestions and thanks for that. What I'm looking for is how do i stay alive more than 1 or 2 min in to the fight? The rogue is just making a beeline for me within 1 min of the fight starting and i'm dead not long after that. I have used fear but he just breaks the fear and come right back after me same for the warrior. I tried the lock portal and that works well for getting some distance. I'm thinking I need to just auto run the whole time and only cast the dots that don't require me to be standing still not sure. |

My guild downed it 2nd try on 25m last night (the first time we didn't know where they'd come from, so we got bum rushed haha) We had resto shaman, resto druid, holy pally, spriest, warlock, hunter, boomkin, rogue, ms warrior, and death knight. To start off, we chain-cc'd as much as we could - particularly focusing on the healers. The other warlock in raid took care of ccing the resto druid, other people were on the holy pally and everyone else was single-target focusing on the resto shaman (everyone kicking too, etc etc etc). Once the resto shaman was down, we took out the holy pally, then the resto druid, then spriest - warlock - hunter - boomkin - rogue - warrior - dk. So pretty much our strategy was healers, then clothies all the way up to finishing plate last. About staying alive longer? umm.... I went affliction and melted faces since I was healingi myself, and i love how drain soul execute still goes off even if they heal up past 25% after you start. Also, I think next time us clothies are going to wear pvp gear, because by the time we finished it, half of our raid was dead. Also, I don't know...just treat the fight as if you really are in an arena. Set your teleport down, and then run to the other side of the room to dps, that way if you do start getting attacked you can port to the other side. And Use your voidwalker for the shield (survivability is more important here than dps). We did 10 mans too afterwards, same strategy... Just gotta remember work around your diminishing returns: Banish- banish - banish - fear - death coil - banish - banish - banish... etc. |

We two shotted this encounter in 25man last night and one shotted the 10man version. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this encounter, it is so chaotic that its different and fun! First time I was on banish duty on the warlocks pet while not burning down the target, this turned out to be disastrous as the banish is very short lived and the felhunter targeted me immediately. I used demonic teleport to gain distance only to find that the rogue was there waiting for me, pwned me then made his way through all our clothies...imagine that, just like real arena! We then changed our strategy, or really just my role in the encounter. While I was responsible for banishing the felhunter when possible, I was also on joint cc duty on the rogue while the rest of the raid focussed on cc'ing and burning healers . It was me and a Mage alternating sheeps and fears/death coil. This worked out perfectly, we kept the rogue out of the entire fight until he was single targetted and burned down. My dps was pathetic as I spent most of my time doing non damaging attacks (Curse of Elements, Banish, Fear, Death Coil, Curse of Tongues on casters, Curse of Weakness on warrior) but the important thing is that we destroyed the Faction Champions... It was nice to break away from the regular pew pew lock dps and serve a different but equally important function. Last edited by phanes; August 19, 2009 at 03:45 PM.. |
