Re: help with Faction Champions

Same tatic as lilsteele posted, also on 25hc.

Death grip pull the rogue, disarm him and such, burn him down. For the three healers we had 3 teams consisting of a mage and a lock. First 3 sheeps, then one spell lock, then 3 fears, then again sheeping. And so on, worked perfectly. Just make sure you have whisp macros to tell your partner when its his turn and/or shout it out on TS/vent. After the rogue we went for the warrior, then the ret paladin, then the mage (arcane blast for 21k damage. On a dk, lol). After that we finished of the healers, starting with the shammy, then pala, then priest. Hunter and Lock as the last ones. Worked so good when we downed them, not even one person died. Well, it took us about 15 to 20 tries to get the rotations and assignments working. But know we know what we have to do, next week will go smoother i hope. And yay, server third to get this one :-)

Some more tips:
1. Dont use Howl of Terror on every cooldown, can messup some DR for the other locks.
2. Death Coil doesnt share DR with ANY other spell, so throw it in when off CD. Can save you or someone else and heals a bit, neat side effect.
3. Shadowfury ONLY when you are sure you wont break any CC with that. Use it when someone chases you, or what i did is to follow the shammy i had to CC, fear wore off, i waited the two sec or so till he began casting, Shadowfury. Spel lcancelled, after the stun wore off, spell lock, then after 5 sec i continued my fear chain. This gives you maybe only a few sec, but meanwhile my mage partner could do some dispelling here and sheeping there.
4. Banish the lock pet when possible, fear other targets that dont have any specific CC assigned to them to not disrupt the other teams.
5. Pet on passive. We wiped once just because some mage had his elemental on aggresive and it broke way to many CC.
6. Auto cast on dispell or use some dispell macros.
7. Frostweave Net works in this fight, good to stop a chasing rogue or warrior. So all of you tailors, use them.
8. NO AoE at all. Especially on hc. No Aoe, really.
9. Have one melee assigned on getting shammy totems down.
10. If you are on CC duty, do your job. After we downed them, i had like 50k damage done, since i did start to dps only once we targeted the shammy. Its way more important to keep the healers CC then to do some dps, your single damage cant outweight what one healer can heal. This fight isnt about damage, its about efficient CC and surviving. All of our mages and locks (7 people in total) did none to very limited amount of damage over the 15 minute duration of that fight. But we got them down, thats what cares.
11. Try to stay away from the big gate where mobs enter, once i got feared, ran through the gate, was outside of the coliseum, but couldn't enter it again. But at least still control my Felhunter :-)
12. After the pull, try to manage it that all locks use their shadowfury at once, this forces the enemy to use their trinkets, then start off with the CC.

Well, hope this dozen of tips helps anyone.
And hell yeah, this fight is a really really fun one :-)

Just try to stay at max range, and go slow at the start, and you don't have to deal with a lot of incoming damage.
This is excellent advice.

This is where our Warlock experience in always having to wait longer than everyone else to let the tank get aggro finally pays off!

because of the nature of the PvP nature of the fight, you're a big target. Your goal should not necessarily be to survive the encounter but to survive as long as possible. Use all three fears and your portal. I would also equip my PvP stun breaker trinket. I also would have my felhunter out and have them continually attacking one of the casters

Also, realize that while the rogue is on you, they aren't on a healer or another clothie, he's probably going to kill you but you can make it as slow of a process as possible to keep them out of the fight.

When I go in there I try to help the group get the first healer down while fearing and portaling when appropriate. But, once my fears are burned its only a matter of time before I'm targeted by a rogue or warrior, sometimes by both at once.

I disagree, your 1st goal is always to survive. That should be everyone's goal for every fight. Your TPS, DPS, or HPS is 0 when you are dead.

Post nerf, there really isn't any reason you should die on this fight unless the healers are already dead and its going to be a wipe. Between kiting, portal, trinket, soul shatter, Death Coil and Howl of Terror (in that order IMO), there isn't any reason you should be taking more damage than can be healed through. If a mob comes at you, just run, chances are he will hit you 2-3 times then aggro onto someone else because they CC'd someone. If he's still on you or if you get CC'd, portal out. Still on you, Soul Shatter, CC'd again, trinket. Between all of this, the rest of the group has had enough time to take a target down.

If there are 2 melee on you for more than a few seconds, your tanks need to do a better job of hassling them. DK's are especially excellent at this (but in regular TotC, any tank class can taunt and hold a melee enough to keep them off of clothies). Between Chains of Ice and Death Grip they can effectively lock down the Warrior/Ret Pally/DK/Rogue, depending on group makeup and who is giving you the most problems.

Doomguard
I know it's already been mentioned in this thread, but it didnt get a lot of attention... on paper, Doomguard's abilities (warstomp, dispel and cripple) seem tailor made here.

Has anyone tried him out on this battle? Would love to hear some stories.

it dies very fast. I think it doesn't have the 80% AoE avoidance of normal pets or something like that.

ah ok thanks for the info. So with 3.3 , doom/infernal get avoidance so it may be more worthwhile then...

Re: help with Faction Champions

I prefer to do ToC and especially ToGC with my felpuppy, since i am always on CC duty and i can more easily control my pet (especially in the heroic versions i am already concentrated enough on CCing and surviving, helping out with a fear here and there, cba to watch even more closely to what my DG is doing). Doomguard has some neat abilities, but what if i AoE stun and break some other CC with that? In ToC10 no big deal, but on ToGC25, this can do way more damage to the raid.
And since i am usually CCing healers or at least casters, the Spell Lock is quite handy.

Yes used him in HC 10 man last night and in 25 normal we normally have one up between 3 locks.

Probably once out off 5 times he has died but having 38k raid buffed HP is pretty nice.

Although your total pure dps will go down without an imp as destr, I think the war stomp ability (as he will generally be on your target which will be a little grouped early on at least) is great, and gives healer and interrupts a nice little boost.

He seems to get attention nicely which is all you need to be honest.

If / when he dies I pop an infernal (remember this is another stun when summons).

On normal would not bother if you have no problems, but for HC version - especially 10 man I think this is worth it.
