Re: EVE Online?

Well I just checked out the web site; http://www.eve-online.com/ , it looks pretty cool. The screen shots look great. Found a lot of useful information there, have you see it? It looked like a demo might be down loadable too.

Re: EVE Online?

I've a few friends who play Eve, and most of them are hooked :-)

I only tried it for the free trial they were offering a while back, but my PC at the time couldn't handle it when I turned up the gfx settings.

On a high end rig it looks fantastic though, and I've been with a mate (on a £2500 gaming PC) while he was in a massive space battle and it was very engrossing (even though I hadn't a clue what was going on)

worth a punt tho if the demo/trial is still about

Re: EVE Online?

EVE is quite a lot of fun, but progression is not something that is fast, and it can take months to train skills, to be able to fly the better ships, and even longer to have the support skills to fly them well.

I played it for about 2 and a half years when it first came out, Very fun and very addictive. The main downside is the fact that the game can be very buggy at times, and because of the nature of the game "i.e you die, you lose your ship, your equipment" it can be very expensive. as only ships can be insured and that costs you money each time.

The battles are immense fun though, I used to love them so much, but unless your in a good corporation and have a good fleet that works well together, it can get costly.

If you get into it, theres a good chance it'll occupy you for a year or two, but it can take a while to get into, most people quit before it really gets fun.

Re: EVE Online?

Money and time, money and time. I lasted maybe 3-4 months. One neat thing is that your character skills level even while you are logged out; so you can get started, begin a skill training, come back in a few days and start a new skill.

It isn't character based, though. In that you only interact with other people as ships, never avatars.

I found a bit too much of a grind with like mining over and over and over again. Almost everything takes time like 10 minutes a leg to do a trading run. If you like spaceships, spreadsheets, and enjoy reading, it's a great game to only half pay attention to.

Re: EVE Online?

Quite fun, but I quit eventually due to rampant cheating at higher level PvP and the insane death penalties.

Re: EVE Online?

Good game, lots of fun, played it for about 18 months, but then returned to WoW.

As people have said above though, takes up a LOT of time.

At first you can just pick the game up and put it down, but once you join a good Corporation / Alliance a quick dabble is no longer really an option.

Once you/your corporation makes it into 0.0 (big boys playground) you will fight to your last ship! economy in 0.0 is all player driven, if you fly a fitted ship somebody else has built it, resarched it, and mined + refined the asteroids that built it.

If I had more time to play games, I would still play EVE, but with work, family etc WoW it is
