Diablo 2's necromancer with golem = WoW warlock

Since day one in WoW, when I didn't have a stable internet connection at home but could check the game guides nonetheless, I have always wished that they had taken more from the Diablo 2 necromancers which play with skeletons, than from those who use a single golem. Being able to build an army from your enemies corpses, exploding them for AOE... what a ride would have been.

I think they didnt go down that route because of the whole undead scourge.

Why introduce a plague to create an army of undead if they could have poisoned them and played with there bones?

The lore behind WOW and D2 seem quite different in styles. D2 seems more grounded in reality and popular myths and legends.

WOW has aspects of this - Scholo, Demons, Scarlet Crusade style npcs could all be traced back to human history.

D2 on the otherhand is quite based in reality - classic tales of murder and corruption and celestial plains. I am not saying any of these are real but relate more to human myth than a created world of their own.

I do like the idea with an army of undead, especially if you could get the Animate Body skill, just imagine it: After a succesful raid in e.g. onyxias lair, you just animate her body and viola! you can go start you own dragonflight

I played a Necromancer for several years in EQ and I must say that I wish sometimes that WoW followed that path a little more.

I still love playing my warlock, but there are quite a few things that WoW has done that irk me at times. Especially since shadowpriests are able to do things I think should be Warlock only.

It's a question of Lore. Necros (I loved my D2 Necro) crossed the veil of life and death, using the dead as their minons and giving life to the lifeless.

A Warlocks power is rooted in the Demonic. We draw upon their energies to do that Voodoo that we do so well.

Oh, but just imagine how fun it could be. Winning a Blue Drop from a warrior in your group and watching him /cry as you turn it into an Iron Golem. ;-)

Necromancer = Lagromancer

Could you imagine being in a BG with a few Necromancers on both sides? I think my video card would explode.

I used to play D2 on a 56k, now with broadband I wouldn't be scared of lag at all. What is incredible is how much the CPU could handle to do, choosing targets and keeping aggro, while today you have to move everything manually or it's the end.

I have never seen anything in wow as exilarating as leading an army of skeletons to 20 enemies, use Bone spear to kill one, make his corpse explode to kill two more, make their corpses and their friends' explode to kill them all and their families.

I used to play a necro in D2 religiously...;)
Had my army of revived, iron maiden curse..

Was nothing better than having 20+ revived cows killing everything within sight while spamming revive on everything that died and iron maiden on everything that moved...

However, when world of warcraft came out i jumped at the warlock, level to 20 and found out that i couldn't be what i used to be...

... only just now (nearly 2.5 years later getting back into my demons and curses...

Mind you, i've given up the demons almost completely and specialise in affliction - love that shadow magic...

Die at my feet!
