Compy Help
![]() So i'm running a Dell inspirion 600m - was fine for the longest time, has all settings minimized, overheats all the time (lol). The problem is that i have alot of UI lag going on and im not sure how to open the memory (?) up to get it running alot faster. I have 1g of ram and a radeon 9000 vid card in it. Any ideas? |

Re: Compy Help
To fall short of tooting my own horn, (damn inflexibilty) my computer is 1 byte shy of a Crain and even I suffer from lag on occasion.
Here's a few thoughts; 1. check out your service providers down/up speeds. 2. are you in a major city at peak hours? Just a few thoughts. |

Re: Compy Help
Yeah, i tried leaning it out but its a bitch to get apart >.<
And for the lag issue, its almost everywhere - last night in Heroic SP and in shatt. Is there any software fixes for something like this or is it just a dirt issue? I'm hoping for a quick fix - patch day ) |

Re: Compy Help
Wait, do you have low FPS, or server lag? Server lag is a connection issue, and has almost nothing to do with processor/GPU/RAM, but low FPS is due to CPU/GPU/RAM. As far as 'opening up the memory,' do you have other apps running at the same time as WoW? I recommend killing every other app (besides you security stuff), as even IE or FF in the background can eat a big chuck of RAM. Also, There is a memory setting for your addons, click the Addon button in the bottom left corner, and bump that up a bit.
If you have KTM installed, Disable it. On my machine, KTM uses more resources than any other addon by a wide margin. D/L protractor from http://files.wowace.com to get a profile of how much CPU/RAM your add-ons are using, and disable a few of the bigger ones. Hope this helps! -Gritz |

Re: Compy Help
Thanks for the replies guys, its not so much server lag, but memory (im sure) - latency bounces up and i can tell from my Quartz mod how bad it gets - my addon memory is at 48 MB's but i don't run too much for addons.
I always kill every program i have running except for Vent and WoW - the only thing im unsure of is which other programs i should kill - i don't run and anti-virus or security programs either and when i cracked the case (laptop) it wasn't all that dirty. So in short, i guess, is there any other processes that i could shut down that arent useful on a day by day basis? |

Re: Compy Help
No AV?
You nutter! (Sorry, but it has to be said) My cpu overheats all the time, which causes buildings to disappear and things to move really slowly. Have to exit wow, restart machine (when firing up it tells me that the cpu has overheated yet again) and go back in. Have taken the side off the box, but hasnt eliminated the problem :( and my techie guy is in Menorca at the moment :( |

Re: Compy Help
my laptop overheats all the time, and during wow, it feels like its on fire, but i know that it was a design flaw, and I have a fan that doesn't function properly. try propping the back up on something if you don't already. i find a 3 hole punch works wonders when i have nothing else available.
