As for me myself, I don't have any children, so I'm not sure if I would let my kid play WoW or not. Hard to say. But even if I chose to not let my child play WoW, doesn't mean that I'm against those parents that do. Considering that I work in the IT field, I would hope that my child would be interested in computers and technology and I would do all that I can to develop that interest. That includes internet...but an internet that is viciously monitored. ![]() |

Re: You might play like a pro, but can you act like one?
In my guild chat yesterday me and a freind of mine was trying to tell a 11 year old how to get an add-on he was not following (could not understand). I was like keeping calm and saying what to do very carefulley and my freind started shouting at him I was shocked he is 18 and acted so Imature about it. I whisped him saying he "is just 11 so stay calm "and he whiisperd back saying "HE DON'T......UNDERSTAND! HE'S A NOOB!" I then put the guy on my ignore list.
(where I did the dots he swore don't think I should say it on here) I hate people like that. Although wow in the eu is a 12+ game some parents let there kids play which I don't mind my self but some people on WoW are really big jerks and I would not let your child go on there unsupervised. At the thread starter: I wish your family good luck I know how hard it is for someone to have diabetes at such a young age. |

Re: You might play like a pro, but can you act like one?
WOW, like any MMO allows people to hide behind their screen and keyboard and say things they would never dare say in real life. It's not limited to a certain age.
Some younger ones do tend to be "asshats" but some are not. My guild has some really great younger players. One of our best DPS and one of our best healers are both 15. They are great kids too. There are problems with older players as well. Many tend to be overbearing. Some are even imperious, expecting that there points of view should be agreed with and get pissy if they aren't getting the "respect" they feel they deserve, that sort of thing. The bottomline is that even though this is a game that we pay for, that doesn't give us the right to do whatever we want. There are real people behind the pixels. The things we do can effect others. If you want to act out in a manner that is "socially unacceptable", play a single player game and leave the rest of us out of it. |

I did a WC PUG with an alt the other day. There was a 13 year old in our group and he was very mature. I never would have guessed his age until he told me. He did an ok job tanking too. I think the 20-29 age group has the most hardcore gamer, anti-noob mentality of any age group. My friends and I are pretty obnoxious to each other, but that's just between friends. I'm usually polite with strangers but if somebody is being obnoxious to me I have no problem being obnoxious right back, followed by a /ignore. Getting the last word in is very sweet ![]() |

Re: You might play like a pro, but can you act like one?
ya know reading all this, i have to say im a lil disappointed in my warlock community. he came here expecting a lil comfort a chance to vent, maybe a lil sympathy. instead he got comments like "preaching to the choir" and "please learn paragraphs".

Re: You might play like a pro, but can you act like one?
erm.... i usually just ignore people asking silly questions (maybe help if they are nice and im bored)
she may be young but i think she should learn that there are tons of people playing the game some are nice, some are insulting and offensive just tell her it happens sometimes and she shouldn't make a big deal out of it . id never ever say something like this (got banned for few days for quoting someone saying "p****"(male "tool" xD)somthing like this is like telling your acocount details in /2), if you still remember hes nick you can report him for offensive language . |

Re: You might play like a pro, but can you act like one?
Dheads like that are always gonna be on internet, be it games or forums (generally speaking), but that shouldnt stop her from playing wow. personally i would suggest getting her put into your guild and using the guild chat if you two cant help.
One thing i would suggest about letting an 8 yr old play wow is to monitor the time she spends on it, so when she isnt supervised she doesnt overplay. she has had an unfortunate experience but try and keep her hopes up. P.S. dont ever say people like that act like 12 yr olds, thats quite offensive. |
