Re: Former EQ Addicts Sound Off

I too am a ex-EQ player from The Rathe server. I started out just after Kunark. I played all the way up until the release of Prophecy or Ro at which point I gave the account to a friend. By the time I finished I had a level 70 High Elf mage, 69 High Elf Cleric, and a level 55 Woodelf Bard all on seperate accounts so I could 3 box.
Let me tell you, in EQ a mage, cleric, and bard could beat almost anything.
At one point I was in one of the top 5 raiding guilds on the server. We had beaten Quarm in PoP, Tunat Muram in GoD, OoW except for OMM(super sucky event), Vishimtar in DoN, and up to Emperor Draygun in DoDH before I finally left.

Farming was rediculous, having to wait 3 days for a spawn and then fight 10 other people for it
I would have to agree with Valdor on this one. Especially epic weapon fights. I remember fighting in Skyfire mountains for 2 or 3 weeks straight to get the 4 pearls for my cleric epic.

Laughing at "Mangina" I totally forgot that term existed until you typed it.

FANCY FTW!!!

Flowers of Happyness were a blast to read up on; and fancy was roleplayed for real... oh, the glory of those days.

I dont think I'll ever experience the thrill and sheer excitement of logging on to a MMOG for the 1st time, or the first couple of weeks thereafter...

Re: Former EQ Addicts Sound Off

EQ was my first computer game aside from Myst! I started playing in May 99 with a half-elf ranger named Alifeyl. I was so inept at the beginning that I used to die from falling off the walkways in Kelethin! I met my husband when I fell in the well in Befallen and couldn't get my corpse back. He helped me out, we became friends, and in March of 2000, he moved from Florida to Oregon and we've been together ever since. :D

We switched to Lanys the first day it opened. /wave Valdor and Dreadcaster

We started barbarians (I was a shaman) and joined the guild Mithril Web shortly thereafter. I was the world's slowest leveler - only got to level 48 - but they were great times. Later I started a DE necromancer and that was my favorite toon and why I went warlock in WoW.

I agree that EQ was much harder than WoW is. I've never cried because of WoW, but I have to admit there were times when I cried after dying in EQ because it was SUCH a pain in the butt! LOL

Great thread - brings back lots of memories. Love the picture of Fippy, one of our favorite NPC's of all time. <3

*recalling many corpse runs in the hole*

It's fair to mention that in UO that was even worse because when you died, anybody can check your corpse and loot EVERYTHING and kill your horse.
