Any oldschool RPGs?
So i like spending some time on single-player RPGs now and then - was looking around what would be worth playing these days, but could not really find anything. Is the market for oldschool-RPG fans really that bad or do i not look into the right direction?
Games which i enjoyed usually have isometric view (opposing to first-person-view), round-based combat (opposing to real-time-click-massacre) and some sort of Party (opposing to one character). Examples would be: Bards Tale, Wasteland, Ultima, D&D series, Fallout 1,2, Knights of the old Republic. Was hoping a bit for Fallout 3, but now i learned it will be a SciFi Oblivion - lots of FPS, not much RPG ![]() So does anyone of you maybe know of an oldschool RPG with turn-based combat and these outdated things which was published in the last two years or is about to be published soon? |

Re: Any oldschool RPGs?
I just recently moved and during the time I've unpacked my stuff, I found that I still have a working Sega Genesis with my favourite two games stowed with it: Shadowrun and Shining Force.
This thread just made me want to hole myself up for a month and play those games again! ![]() |

Re: Any oldschool RPGs?
Those style of games went the way of the dodo many many years ago as far as I can tell. I also enjoy the occasional day of playing the old Bards Tale games and a few others you mentioned. I have 15-20 of the old games on my hard drive.
The majority of those are now freeware or abandonware and can be downloaded quite easily from a multitude of sites and played using a variety of programs such as dosbox etc. If you do hear of one though I would be very interested in learning about it. |

Re: Any oldschool RPGs?
Might and Magic III was my favorite way back when.
I'd also often play Sundog - A Frozen Legacy which wasn't necessarily a turn based RPG, but it was a primative economy based RPG - pretty cool back in the day. Then of course there is always Taipan! |
