SAN JOSE, California -- They prefer Defender to Doom, Galaxian to Grand Theft Auto. If the controller has more than two buttons, or if the screen displays more than 16 colors, they're not interested. And for two days every year, they get together to celebrate the classic games they love.

This year, the organizers of the Classic Gaming Expo moved their show to San Jose from Las Vegas to be closer to Silicon Valley in hopes of attracting more game designers, old- and new-school. For the designers, the Expo is a chance to party with old friends, coworkers and drinking buddies. For fans it is a chance to meet their idols.

It's also a chance to find all sorts of rare and sought-after video game collectibles. From ultra-rare Colecovision releases that fetch hundreds of dollars to priceless pieces of vintage memorabilia, there's not much that couldn't be had -- for a price, of course. For those whose tastes ran a little less extravagant, there was the Swap Meet, where attendees met to sell and trade right out of their suitcases.

i love old school games! i've put more time into playing NES, ATARI, SNES and Genesis than any thing remotely modern. my computer is packed ROMs for all these systems. The old RPGs are a lot of fun. stuff like Dragon Warrior, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, Phantasy Star. those games are what form my video game soul.

oh, and Super Dodgeball is still my all time favorite game. 8)

That looks pretty cool. Time Pilot was definitely one of my games I could play a machine till it overheated and melted down  There is an arcade at the beach near where I live. It has a ton of oldskool games I still play a bit when we go . The kids like the driving games the best the ones that move and shake ).

I like it all, there are some awesome old games (Chrono Trigger is still the best rpg of all time in my oppinon) as well as the new game, and while I usually just play the modern games it was the old ones that got most of us into it.

of all the "new" old games I like Mortal Kombat... its definetly not as old as the ones these guys play... but they also seem a bit weird, when they only want to play games with under 16 colors...
