Corded optical mice

I'm running currently a supplied with pc corded ball mouse. I fancy changing to an optical one - not expensive. I am not into cordless, as they are a pain with recharging. What are your current set-ups using? And are optical ones better?

I bought me a Microsoft Sidewinder yesterday

it seems to be a bit bigger fitting my large hands very well, also liked the fact that the side buttons are on top of each other and not side by side.

optical, definitely the better choice. They don't suck dust, no cleaning required.

If you want a good mouse, at a fair price then buy a microsoft, if you want a GREAT mouse at a fair price Razer all the way.

I have had a diamondback and now I have the death adder, by far the best mice I have ever used.

Re: Corded optical mice

I have had three different Microsoft 5-button mice, 1 wireless and 2 wired. All of them cost in the $30-$50 range and lasted a year or less. I don't recommend getting Microsoft.

I'm currently using a logitech MX518 wired optical, which is a top of the line gaming mouse (with a 3 year warranty!) that cost ~$60, as I recall. While I love it, if you don't want to spend that much on a mouse, most of Logitech's lines are affordable and reliable.

Regardless, make the switch to optical. It's night and day difference.

Re: Corded optical mice

I agree with the above posters. Go optical and you will never go back. The Logitech line have always stood me in good stead, and start quite cheaply. I'm using a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. The mouse battery will last around 48 hours without recharging, but it uses rechargeable batteries and has handy recharging station that comes with the kit, and the batteries charge while in the mouse; I just slot the mouse into the kit. I've never really found that much of a problem using it, and I find wireless so much more handy with no corded restriction.

Personally, I've never liked the Microsoft mice or keyboards, but perhaps that's just a "me" thing.

Re: Corded optical mice

Interesting that people's mice differ so greatly. Oddly enough, I'm on the other end of things, I've been using Microsoft Intellimice for quite some time, both wired and wireless and have only once run into a problem (the cord got kinked).

Wireless Microsoft mice do not use rechargeable batteries which is a lamentable failure on their part but at the same time, I only have to change my mouse batteries about once every three or four months and that's with pretty steady use.

It all depends on what you like, I wouldn't say anything against what other people have used and works for them as I've not used them myself.

Re: Corded optical mice

logitech all the way.. I have gamed with logitech mice for years.. This was what my first logitech looked like.. (and I still have one.. )

I am not saying microsoft mouse (I have owned several of them) is a bad mouse but it certainly is not as good as logitech mice.

Heck.. goto www.logitech.com and look at the top of the line mice there..
compare that to microsoft top of the line.. Lets see.. adjustable weights.. adjustable grips.. adjustable DPI.. hrm.. Oh.. microsoft doesnt do those features..

One final thing.. When my microsoft optical stopped tracking because it picked up a single cat hair.. and I have to flip it over to clean it out.. hrm.. I dont remember the last time I have ever cleaned my logitech optical..
