Father Accused Of Beating Son For Beer Money
Police: Son Refused To Let Father Pawn Video Game System
A West Haven man was arrested on charges of beating his son when the boy refused to turn over a video game system so it could be pawned for beer money. William McKinney, 51, was arraigned in Superior Court Thursday on charges of risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. "We certainly don't like to hear about parents beating their child in order to get a beer," West Haven Police Sgt. Paul Raucci said. Raucci said officers learned of the abuse after responding to a complaint Wednesday afternoon. Investigators learned that McKinney apparently wanted to hawk his son's PlayStation at a pawnshop for beer. When the boy refused to give up the video game system, McKinney hit him, Raucci said. The child's mother later traded the video game system in for cash and came home with beer, police said. The state Department of Children and Families is investigating the matter and the couple's children have been placed in foster care, a court official said. Source : NBC30 |

Alcohol addiction is stupid. It usually happens to middle-aged men who get bored easily and don't know anything else to really do except drink. Nowadays i like to keep control of my senses. Much to my annoyance i've become the person who has to calm things down at parties/clubs or whatever.
If you are not man/woman enough to control the amount of alcohol you consume then you shouldn't be allowed to drink it in my honest opinion. Sorry but it's something i feel strongly about. I like to drink and get drunk on occasions with friends, but why anyone would have such a craving for the stuff that they would beat their kid because of it i have no idea. |

Well i don't understand it. Sure it's fun sometimes - sure it's fun to go out every week if need be with friends to party and drink... but it just baffles me. WHY do alcoholics become alcoholic? Not because they simply tried it at a party like some drugs and had a craving for it. There is a fine line between a partying group of youths who drink all the time to people who find the need to drink for the hell of it.

My mother was, to me a borderline alcoholic for my childhood, the only reason I can't say she was an alcoholic is because she never went to AA meetings or doctor's to get help, she just slowly stopped drinking as much. You have no idea what it's like as a teenager to put out the recycling bin and have it full of wine bottles. Alcoholism is a sickness, one that is recognised by the Medical Association, and it does not only happen to middle age men. I myself don't drink... ever. That may sound strange to some people, but I have not touched an alcoholic drink in over 4 years - haven't had more than a couple of sips of one in probably 5. Apart from the fact I spent about a year completely off my face every day and now can't stand the thought, smell or sight of alcohol, I also have an extremely addictive personality. Just as about my 6 month stint eating Kinder Surprise (chocolate kids treat) every day, sometimes two a day. OMG or my Pez addiction. Addiction are a problem, and it's not just a matter of not being able to control yourself. Smoking, Drugs, Alcohol, they are all major addictions that are recognized my the Medical Association. I'm surprised to see those comments come from you Kalazor... a 12 year old maybe, but not an adult. Why do people become alcoholics? Because it's easier to deal with life drunk that it is sober. It's not because they like the party like, the exact opposite, most alcoholics feel like shit when they sober up, don't like feeling like that so continue drinking. Boscolio's pretty correct in saying its genetic... alcoholism is something that has been in our family line for as far back as I can search. My Grandmother was also a very heavy smoker, I'm talking a 30 pack a day... my mother didn't smoke, but once I picked it up, crap was it hard to give up. I don't smoke now, and I'm glad I never touched drugs (no, not even pot) because I am aware of my habbit to become addicted to everything. Just because you don't understand something does not make it stupid. Considering how many clinics are out there to treat these diseases (yes they are a disease) I would have expected it to be more known about over there than here. Alcoholics Anonymous would be enough to give it away I would have though.... |

I understand how in some cases they are serious. However the point i am trying to make is that i hold absolutely no sympathy to people who become addicted to drugs/smoking/alcohol/whatever as a teenager or middle-aged with a family for example. If it's in the genes then there isn't much to do about it except get help.
Maybe i went a little over the line with a few comments above... i admit i do have some strange and maybe pretty aggressive views about people. Cannabis? Tried it? Smoked? Had maybe 20. Drunk? Countless times. I have never ever had the incentive to go out and buy a pack of cigarettes, buy some drugs from a dealer and rarely nowadays drink. I can see how some people may not be so... strong is the wrong word, but for argument's sake, strong as myself in respect to that. I still think though that anybody with some sort of addiction should get help. Especially if they have a family. If not then they are people i will usually have nothing at all to do with. If you are addicted... get help. If you are addicted and don't get help then that is your own fault in my opinion. But anyway... sorry if i've offended anyone -especially you Akasha. But i'm not changing my views. |

Yea i agree on some of kalzors pows... it seems to me that if people dont have enough willpower to say no to alcoholism/drug addiction etc.. then its their own fault... I dont respect people who doesnt have the willpower to atleast try making it good for them...
