Teen Jailed For Shooting Father over Video Game
So no one misses it, I am going to put it right up the front here... take note of what the father says : "He had a behavior problem before he came here." Finally a parent that didn't blame the game.
Teen Sentenced For Shooting Father After Arguing About Video Game (LOUISVILLE, August 31st, 2004, 3 p.m.) -- A 17-year-old convicted of shooting his father over a video game faced his father in court Tuesday and learned his sentence. WAVE 3's Maureen Kyle has more. Lucious Kennedy Sr. says it was frustrating to see his son in court Tuesday morning. Kennedy says he hasn't spoken to his son since the shooting last year, and has only seen him in court. He says his son shot him after an argument about a video game. Lucious Jr. pleaded guilty to felony assault and possession of a handgun by a minor. Kennedy is now paralyzed from the waist down as a result of that shooting and is confined to a wheelchair. The only reason he showed up for his son's sentencing was to deliver a special request to the judge. "I wrote a letter to the judge. I was asking for like 5 to 7 years." But the judge decided one year in a juvenile detention facility is what Lucious Kennedy Junior needs for now. The elder Lucious expressed disappointment when his son was sentenced to one year in a juvenile corrections facility. "A year is just ... I mean it's taken me that long just to learn how to stand. So I wanted him to get something more than that." Once Lucious Jr. turns 18, he can be re-sentenced, and his father says he plans on making the same plea then. "He had a behavior problem before he came here. That was one of the reasons why he came ... so I just happened to be the person who took the bullet. But it could have been someone else if it hadn't been me." Lucious Kennedy Junior wrote a letter of his own, saying he was afraid of his father because of years of drinking and yelling. His attorneys wouldn't comment on the sentence. Online Reporter: Maureen Kyle Source : WAVE 3 |
