For those of you dreading Windows Vista ...

How to Install XP on Your Pre-Installed Vista Computer

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...ista-computer/

This is exactly what I did ... Incredibly easy, and only took 5 min (not including XP install time) to setup ... Allows you to easily setup a "dual boot", in which you can still use your Vista for whatever, and use XP for WoW, or any other purpose you may wish ...

A "must know" for everyone who has a Vista machine, but would rather use XP for WoW

*** Note ***
I work with computers quite a bit, so I was already familiar with some of the things mentioned in the guide. For others, it may take a little longer, but is still quite easy.

FYI - installing XP on a prebuilt Vista machine is not always a good idea. Make sure you do your research beforehand and take the time to discover XP drivers for all of your components. This is especially true on many of the newer laptops which use propietary video drivers that do not have existing XP drivers.

Re: For those of you dreading Windows Vista ...

I've been running WoW on vista for a couple months now with no major issues. In fact, it actually runs better on vista than it did for me on XP. Now, whether that is because this is a fresh install of vista and the XP had been bogged down form years of use or because I built my machine and didn't buy it I dunno.

However, Vista is supposed to do a better job of disk management and not require as much rebooting or even formating to get that performance back. Either way I'm much happier running Vista than I was with XP.

A lot of people dive into the slam Vista for this reason or that reason, but on the whole, Vista is doing a lot better in its initial release than XP did when it first came out. I'm sure that when the next version of Windows comes out, people will be defending Vista with as much force as they currently are defending XP.

I'm not trying to turn this into an XP vs Vista trolling thread. Just use whatever OS you want. I'm happy with Vista, others i'm sure are happy with XP. A lot depends on the hardware you have behind the OS.

Re: For those of you dreading Windows Vista ...

I have 4 gigs installed on my new Vista rig and have noticed that it is using 38% of total system memory just sitting there. So thats a little over one gig just for vista. Wow will require one gig on its own. My point is if your running Vista you need a min of 3 gig to run any Direct X10 or better game. Most Vista machines out of a box that I have seen only have one or two gigs installed so they won't run any game very well.

Re: For those of you dreading Windows Vista ...

I've been using Vista with WoW for over a year now. I was the first one in my guild to successfully use it, and all I hear are people complaining about it. I've only had to update a few key things (ie sound drivers because I sounded like the teacher from Peanuts) to be able to play the game the way I wanted to.

It was a verry well written work through you linked there world2er.

Say I wanted to go all out and install linux as a third OS, pretty much the same deal or would I need a different boot loader?

Been running vista since September, had a few hiccups at first but it runs wow fine. I don't like the OS as a whole though, it's much too carebear and "let me do that for you" than XP was.
